Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today? #103 visit with friends!

Victoria Harbour, ON

It's a glorious day today, thought I'd move us over...and what a pretty room it is..filled with sunshine, flowers and wonderful people...

Moved us over from here:

Just thought with Mothers' Day on Sunday I'd post the following:

Before I was a Mom,
I never tripped over toys
or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn't worry whether or not
my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom,
I had never been puked on.
Pooped on.
Chewed on.
Peed on.
I had complete control of my mind
and my thoughts.
I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom,
I never held down a screaming child
so doctors could do tests.
Or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night
watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom,
I never held a sleeping baby just because
I didn't want to put her down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces
when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small
could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom,
I didn't know the feeling of
having my heart outside my body..
I didn't know how special it could feel
to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond
between a mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small
could make me feel so important and happy.

Before I was a Mom,
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night
every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth,
the joy,
the love,
the heartache,
the wonderment
or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much,
before I was a Mom.

May you always be overwhelmed by the Grace of God rather than by the cares of life

Ohhh, yeah. I am first in the new room.
heheh.

Betty, that is so beautiful! Thank you.

and Thanks about Sabrina's art. Yes she is in art class. She must really like her work for her to show us. normally, she doesn't.
LOL a perfectionist so young, yikes drives me bonkers! Anyway, I am going to hang it in the foyer when she gets it back.

How wonderful, you will have to post the article. I am just brimming with Pride too about Kyle and his cause myself.
Just wrote a check for breast cancer a couple of days ago. It's just so nice to hear of young people going well and beyond for such an incredible campaign. Hey, ask him who to make a check out and I will send a donation!

lol...better send or I won't be first! LOL.

Victoria Harbour, ON

You are too funny Judy..press send to be first..

OMG I want out of here..

My last call was my 'mother', we gabbed for about 20 minutes, she was on many different topics, was JUST waiting for her to mention the episode of yesterday with my sister Sharon...she'd not have liked what I would have said..i.e. Sharon's $$$ and her son Brian are taboo topics, not my business nor hers...but, she was a good girl..

Her call to me was 'when will you come and put in a pond for me at the cottage..twice I went in past several years and each time step-father would say, just sit and visit, you do too much to be worrying about a pond..oh oh just had a brainstorm, why not just put the water feature spray in the river next to the shoreline, she'd have a big pond...

then next I said that Bernie (DB) was at the house doing the window, trim and taking stalk of what he needs to do the doors on all the rooms..went on about how he comes to do work for me and not her, and she'd pay him the same as I would...I just said 'don't know mom, maybe because I'm on my own'..end of that conversation..aren't mom's wonderful..

As I was typing Bernie called to say he couldn't do trim on 2nd window, has to rip some wood which I'm to pick up on my way home tonight, once painted he'd be back ..shutters weren't in nor the screens I had made so guess he'll be vgisiting me yet one more time...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks for the new room Betty, and that poem is wonderful.

LK

Victoria Harbour, ON

LindaKay, how is your dad doing? will he have a doctor when he's staying with your brother who has all his particulars...

Lunch time, think when I go out I'll not want to come back in...it's just so beautiful, girls say it's in high 70's

Phone rang off the hook this a.m....did a few assessments and now I've taken my sketching out..

ooops think we're going to Dairy Queen...

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

My grandmother had Alzheimer's and after she had forgotten who everyone was, along with everything else, she stroked out. She had complained for years (she had Alzheimer's for 12 years) that she was dizzy. My grandfather who was still alive at that time didn't do anything, figuring she was out of her mind anyway. At that point she refused to take showers because she had just taken one, didn't remember how to cook, and numerous other things she had forgotten how to do. We wonder to this day if she was having mini strokes.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Not a great way to live is it Crissy, not knowing anyone..terrible when a couple lives such an age that each have to look after each other through alzheimers and strokes...musn't be easy..

Glenview, IL

Dairy Queen, wait for me im coming too...scrumpdelicious, remember that commerercial? the little girl with red hair, Margaret??
lol, just popped in my head...

Well, my friend just left, we just sat and enjoyed the activity in the yard.

It's gorgeous out, going to rain later so I am back out there diggin up some weeds.

Crissy, that is sad, like you I would wonder too, very hard to see parents get ahlzhimers, My friends mom had it for a long time, all she wanted to do was drive, I am sure you should be comforted though that you cared for her as best that you could.

This AM, was typing Julia's paper, very interesting.

OK, I have been seeing topsy turvy pots holder and decided i am going to make one! LOL, been hanging on to this steak watering thing, Jacob found it by someones garbage, he brought it home for me, never did work right roflol, guess thats why it was in the garbage! Well, now I am going to use the rod for the pots...cudos for dumpster diving!

better get to work here.
see you in a bit...

Lyndonville, NY

Seed, very good memory! Yes, that was Margaret...Dennis the Mennis fame girl! LOL I love Dairy Queen, haven't been but twice in about 15 years. But when I was little...ohhhh my. I would get done with dance class....and I had a 20 minute wait for my SF to pick me up. I had saved my lunch money....and ran across to Dairy Queen for a Dilly Bar or Flying Saucer sandwich. OMG what memories. I couldn't have the slushy...because it would turn my lips bright red or whatever flavor....and Mom would know and my cover would be blown! LOL

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, I just got back back form the Dr's. and got a complete copy of his medical records, and all is in order. He will see another Dr, in Colorado, where my Brother lives. He is driving to Amarillo to meet me, as it is about the hals way point for both of us to drive!
Enjoy your Dairy queen visit, they have pretty good food.
Judy, make sure youpost a picture of your topsy turvy planter when you get it done.

LK

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Judy post a pic of your non working watering stake, I want to see if it is the same non working stake that I have......the threaded part does not accept any faucet or hose fixture that I can find anywhere.....must be why mine was fee too..........

Victoria Harbour, ON

My topsy turvey pots still sit on the front yard since fall..soon time to palnt..end of May I guess...always enjoy purchasing trailing plants...

LindaKay, know our health system allows for everyone to have equal care but lordy, you could never just go get a doctor in another community..they are at such a premium...regardless if you like your Dr. it's stay till you die or someone else does so you can get their spot...yuk..not nice..

Glad you enjoyed your day Judy, it's starting to cloud over here as well..5 more minutes and homeward bound..stop at Bernie's to get the wood so I can get it painted tonight so he can finish the 2nd
project..girls all confirmed they are coming tonight for painting...wish it was a lay on the couch night, once we get started I'm fine....

Dairy Queen was enjoyable...they now have 9 items on display..you can order 2 for $2 - 3 for $4 and 4 for $6...so had me a cheeseburger, onion rings, salad and then finished off with a strawberry ice cream sundae..

Debbie was a flying saucer 2 cookie halves with ice cream in the middle?

Suzanne and I were gabbing at lunch, when I hired her at Amex about 42 years ago we were saying how 'high tech' it was..micro fiche, computers to book hotels for cardmembers and also authorization of cards....doesn't seem so long ago...but it was...now, everyone has computers...

finish this when I get home...lol

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, I would have chosen the same exact meal....sounds yummy!

And yes, the Flying Saucer was like two cookies with ice cream in the middle...but not exactly a cookie, like an ice cream sandwich type coating. Perhaps like a round chocolate graham cracker?

Victoria Harbour, ON

They probably call it something different nowdays Debbie...

Dropping in for a sec...finish what I was saying..

So much technology in 40 years, can you even think what could be in the next 40, could they possibly ever have more changes in 40 years than we've had...

Wonder what it would be like..care to guess????

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

lost u all!!

doing fine.. life is rough at thte moment but im coping...
havnt had time much to get on but will try to get on more often.

hugs to u all

Baton Rouge, LA

Betty - I wonder if Kyle could get your local newspaper to cover the story and help drum up some donations....that is quite a wonderful story!

Just a thought that came to me....

Hugs,
Mary

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hey Laura, how you doing? Sorry to hear your having a rough time. Please take care! Sending you some ((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))))).

LK

Victoria Harbour, ON

Laura, hugs coming your way along with prayers..hope the grandchildren are doing ok...how's DD doing?

Mary, under the poster to the right is one of his sponsors, a local newspaper...thanks for thinking of him...all the girls here tonight will sponsor me on my ride...that will help him towards his goal...

OMG last week Janice came back to join us..she hadn't been for a few years as she was building a home down near the lakefront..she is such a card and so entertaining, each word she says comes out with drama, arms moving, so expressive..

All the girls and certainly myself all need to lose weight..all are going on a better eating regime and fitness program..so, we decided that each week after class 9:30 I would teach line dancing for 1 hour..tonight was our first night..have to tell you it's been a long time since I've spent an evening laughing out loud..they are all so much fun..

Rita, she's about 6'2" moved the coffee table and side table, I found music but realized that my dancing tapes from teaching were all casette's so had to find new 'tunes' on cd so next week they'll bring a casette player...I'll be sore tomorrow..

Poor Sailor and the kitties, they weren't quite sure what we were up to...the kitties were on the chesterfield eyeing our every move...few more girls coming next week..not quite sure where I'll put them..lol...just had so much fun..

Off to bed, way past my bedtime, adrenaline going so most likely won't sleep..more sore muscles tomorrow I'm sure...

AnnMarie/Audrey/Linda Kay, sure hope you are all feeling better...

Night/night

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Hi All We planted our taters today its "Good Friday in Ames Ne."
I'll finish them tomorrow..We planted them in mix of straw & leaves..

Smile....LOL
Subject: good question

A man calls his lawyer and asks... "With all the lawsuits
going on, I want to get in on some of that action. I hear
people are suing cigarette companies because they got cancer
and others are suing McDonalds because they got fat."

"And which one of those categories do you fit under?"

"Neither," says the man. "I just want to know if I can sue
Budweiser for all the ugly women I've ended up with after the bar closed.

Nite All
I'm a little tired..Shirley already crashed..She has to work tomorrow..
She'll be like Betty go to work to sit at comp..and rest..I wont show her this..LOL

Baton Rouge, LA

"Aerobics At Bettys"! Sounds like a good time! You are up late Betty! (I'm sure you're not up still)...

Glad you had a good time...

TUBBY!

Mary

INSTALLING A HUSBAND

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a
distinct slow down in overall system performance, particularly in the
flower and jewelry applications, which operated flawlessly under
Boyfriend 5.0.

In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such
as * Romance 9.5 and * Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed
undesirable programs such as * NBA 5.0, * NFL 3.0 and *Golf Clubs 4..1.

Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes
the system.

* Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these
problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

Signed,

Desperate.

DEAR DESPERATE,

First, keep in mind,
* Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while * Husband 1..0 is an
operating system.

Please enter command: ithoughtyoulovedme.html and try to download Tears
6.2 and do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update.
* If that application works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then
automatically run the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.

However, remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband
1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5,Happy Hour 7.0 or Beer 6.1.
* Please note that Beer 6. 1 is a very bad program that will download
the Farting and Snoring Loudly Beta..

Whatever you do, DO NOT under any circumstances install Mother-In-Law1.0
(it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of
all your system resources.)

In addition, please do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend
5.0-program .These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband
1.0.

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited
memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider
buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We
recommend * Cooking 3.0 and * Hot Lingerie 7.7.

Good Luck Babe!

Tubby!

Hugs,
Mary

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Thanks Tubby - that is really cute. Must show it to DH and see what he says!!!

Lyndonville, NY

Tubby is on a roll! Watch out! LOL Thank you for such a great morning smile.

We have rain, and more rain on the way.

I have coffee in hand...and paperwork staring me down that I have GOT to get done or big trouble.

So waving good morning to everyone, I hope you all had a peaceful nights sleep, and a good day ahead.

Debbie

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone. Hope you all have a blessed day. It will be another scorcher here, about 104 today. Yesterday was 107! Record heat for the day!!!
So all my plants got an extra long drink this morning!

LK

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Terry-I loved the 1st one-and BTW-guys aren't the only ones that end up with someone shall we say "less than desirable" after several beers and shots;)

Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG Linda Kay, temps in 100..how do you cope..Jeff spent 6 months in Phoenix and said it's a different life altogether because of the temps..do they have water restrictions with regards to watering? You must have to be an expert gardener to have plants that live...guess you get your work done early morning or late morning after the heat of the day..

Don't know if I'd want it that hot, 80's is about the temp I'd like.

Like Debbie it rained last night, this morning travelling in you went from drizzle to sunshine...calling for much the same all day...I'm so sad that the weather for Saturday is rain..how can those boys do the patio slabs and work on gazebo in the rain..guess I'd best go through the house and see what INSIDE projects they can attempt...

As usual Tubby, you had me chuckle..especially loved the lawyer/client post..ugly women..hmmmm
Tubby, how many potato plants would you have planted...

Yep, Shirley and I will have a quiet day at the computer..I'll do some sketching to occupy myself, class tonight..lots of late nights for me..I'm an early to rise early to bed kind of person..lol..oh well, 2 more Mondays I'm sure I can handle that and 5 more Thursdays...

Thursday nights I enjoy, meet Diane and go out for supper and have a visit..we'll go shopping for an hour or so, have to pick up mom's Mother's Day gift..

Ohhhh wonder what mine will be..lol...boys joke and say 'you mean we have to do all your 'to do's' and you still WANT a gift..lol..too cute..

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Seed those were my grandparents. My mom's turning 61 this August and I'm hoping my grandmother's Alzheimer's isn't in the genes. My grandfather passed 4 years before my grandmother from Congestive Heart Failure.

Betty California has water restrictions all the time. At restaurants you don't get served water unless you ask for it, in the city where I'm from if you get caught washing your porch/walkway/driveway off you'll get a hefty fine, etc. For gardens you use drip lines and lawns sprinklers and water in the middle of the night, there are a lot of people with automatic sprinkler systems. In those dry states the normal "wet" season is Jan and Feb. Of course it rains all winter off and on, but from around the end of April to end of Nov there is no rain and the reservoirs will dry up, so without those water restrictions there would be no water to use.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

No water restrictions yet, but we are always under a burn ban, but then there is one dummy, that tries to burn the weeds or brush, and poof, there goes a neighborhood!
We stay inside with the AC on. Yes I give everything a good watering in the morning. I also have the watersorb crystals in the new Angel garden, and I know that is saving the plants. Otherwise, I think they would all be toasted.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

We lived in Phoenix for 7 years and it truly is very different.....when we lived in CA we were only bale to water our lawn on certain days according to our house # and if you were caught watering on the other days, Crissy is right-hefty fine-like $400 or something....

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

and in CA in the summer, transformers were always blowing in Fresno and in the summer there it is like 105 so so on avg, so 8 hrs w/o AC was NOT fun!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Guess we all have pro's/con's of living where we do..

Last year was about the only year since I've been where I live that we didn't have a water band..even house # meant watering on even days..madening though, up the road from me, they have wonderful front and back gardens, you just have to know when everyone else has gardens that are almost dead that they are watering during the night or with inground sprinkle system..

Has stopped raining, although it looks overcast the girls were just saying it's beautiful outside...

One of the boys just called to say there would be something on my front deck tonight so check when I got home .. drats, won't get home until 10 or 11..have to be patient.....

Starting to get hungry, shouldn't eat much as I'm meeting Diane for supper in 3 1/2 hrs......

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

More surprises for Betty! More earthly angels?

Victoria Harbour, ON

lol..don't know, maybe a mothers day gift...

Picked up something at the Eatery, next door happened to be Superstore garden tent..wouldn't you know a healthy bugbane plant was on sale..$6.99 for $4.99 so must have one..

Carol introduced me to this plant last year..think I've one or 2 already but when they are in bloom the entire yard smells like heaven...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Never heard of it!
Is it a large plant, a vine?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Not a vine, plant, but does grow quite tall..beautiful lace lake spikes..never smelt a flower with more sweet scent...

Victoria Harbour, ON

a view of the bugbane

http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/215946/

here's a PF pic of one cultivar

Baton Rouge, LA

That's really striking! How tall does it get?

Probably won't grow here. I've now killed my last Gazania and I think it must be the heat.

We've had record highs this week around 90. I'm learning that the heat is probably my biggest enemy in trying to get stuff to grow....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just got in, brrr it's cool in the house tonight, crazy me, thought it was spring and turned down the furnace..could sure use some of your heat!!!!

Tired tonight, too many late nights..

Got Caleb's portrait finished and framed..now I'll start Braedon's...think Jeff will like it.
