Raspberry

Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom

Hi,

Just a quick query for you, I have a raspberry bush and a few of the "new" branches have been blown off in the wind, I was wondering can I plant these and will they grow? I don't know how many have fallen off yet however I was wondering about just putting a few in the soil and also trying to root some in water?

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you

I'm not a paid member unfortunately.

Well there were only two branches so I figured I'd put them in water and see, they were gonners anyway so I figured I may as well try. They've really perked up since yesterday so I guess it's just a waiting game now.

Keep us posted on how it goes. :-)

I will. They still seem to be doing ok, no drooping anymore; they look pretty healthy :)

raspberries are very hearty - I'm sure they'll be great!

I am not familiar with raspberries, other than raiding my neighbors garden as a kid. Still, when I was trying to grow some lilacs from cuttings, I seem to remember making a clean cut at an angle with a sharp knife, dipping them in a rooting compound, and planting the treated end in a pot filled with clean sand. They should be regularly watered and kept in a shady place. Perhaps something similar will work. Good luck.
