PLEASE! WE NEED YOUR INPUT FOR ROUNDUP PLANNING!!! HELP!!!

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Sorry that I have been MIA for the past few months. I just did a quick read of this thread and it sounds like it is going to be fantastic!

I have the entire weekend blocked out on my calendar and am planning on attending all of the fabulous events that you ladies have planned (please add me to the list for Mt. Tahoma as well.) Sounds like it's going to be a great time! Rachel

Buckley, WA(Zone 7b)

RACHEL, glad to have you back!!!!!! I was worried about you.
Thistle, that was a hilarious story about the rocks.
Tills, that rock sounds to be very precious to you.
Dinosaur egg nest - now that sounds fun. I like things that are not traditional.
Everyone - I have been so behind in responding to the threads, I apologize. This weather has tied me to the end of a hose, and I am running out of steam.
This heat has set me back so much in the garden and the house, it would take a miracle to get everything done that I had planned on completing by RoundUp. So, my gardens will be works in progress!!!

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Lynn all of our gardens are a work in progress! Just getting together is what is truly important. I think that we are all tired of being tied to the hoses and sprinklers, I sure know that I wouldn't mind a wee bit of rain falling from the sky at night!

Lynn,

At this rate, my garden won't even be weeded well by roundup, but Rachel is right, it's about the get together! It will be fun, weeds, unfinished projects and all!

Mom and I were tossed up about which was more important right before roundup...making sure that the gardens looked as good as possible, or taking a trip over to EWA and bringing back fresh tomatoes, peaches, and watermelon for the potluck and our breakfast. Fresh fruit and vegies won! Barring deer decimation, we should have plenty of home grown tomatoes from the east side, and unless our timing is wrong, fresh peaches picked with our own hands for breakfast. Hopefully that will entice people to forgive a few imperfections!

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

LOL - I'm leaving my imperfections at home!
I wish we had weed editing lenses on our eyes, like we do on our cameras...

Buckley, WA(Zone 7b)

You are so right. Fresh fruit and veges won me over. I wanted to get the Tagro down so it would have a chance to "air out", but it is just too hot to shovel s***
When are you going fishing? When is the EWA trip? Ummm, I can just taste the peaches (my favorite fruit btw) and the tomatoes (second most favorite fruit).

Roy owes me 2 hours of work, so maybe that would be a good time to have him over to help me weed, unless you have plans for him?

Joey is trying to get plans formulated in his mind for the outdoor shower. He wants to have it completed before the RU, so it will be easier for guests to shower if they want to use the hottub. We will see, time is running out. It is just too hot to get any projects completed, let alone started and completed.
I am so looking forward to meeting everyone, I can't wait. We need to start a thread about who is definitely coming, and if they need accommodations, and a potluck thread.
Does anyone drink beer? He was going to get a small keg of beer, if anyone besides us will drink it.

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Lynn...working on a summary as we speak. Will d-mail, have you look over, and then will post with a link to it on enough threads to annoy everyone.

Gone fishing Saturday AM.... so exited we can barely stand it!

Probably taking a girls fling to e-wa--the one day deal--either on the weekend of the 22nd or maybe the 26th for fruit and veggies...would love to have you join us if you aren't too stressed out!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I Am so sorry that you feel your place has to be picture perfect for us to come visit, that is a NOT don't want to hear it. We are coming for the joy of meeting all DGers in the (Mmmm How do I put this) to all who can get there LOL And enjoy the company and sharing or knowledge and ideas.
I just had a DGer come visit my place he has never been here before but I have been to his. ( Oh love his place) But he hires help. which most of us cant do.
My place is a mess LOL but he told me it is "All work in progress" I liked that made me feel good.
And he brought a gift. He Hybridizes Hostas

Very pretty hosta!

Love fresh fruit, and most of the folks heres' gardens make me despair of my own as it is, so seeing a few weeds and unfinished projects will help me feel less inadequate, lol. Plus, think of the onsite design resources and ideas there will be for changes or new areas! Fun thing to talk about, too.

Katye, I've found one way to see beyond the "faults" in my garden. Sometimes when Rick & I just need to get out of the house but don't want to go anywhere or necessarily spend any money we'll go drive around neighborhoods in other parts of town just to look at houses and gardens. After we've done that for a while and seen lots of really horribly done yards (along with some really great ones if we're lucky ), when I finally get home there will be a couple of minutes where I can see my garden objectively, and wow, what a good feeling to be able to see what other folks see for a few minutes! Very reassuring to someone who can obsess as much as I can. :)

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

I'm bringing my gloves. We'll each go to town on a section and get it weeded in no time!

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

hmmm...weeding contest????? I think I've heard Katye is a speed demon...

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Tilly, What a sweet sentiment. It's not that we need our gardens to be "picture perfect", it's just that when you are working in a garden, you have an image in your mind, and you would love people to be able to see that image. You are always so much more critical of your own stuff than you are of someone elses!

Susybell, You are right....wandering neighborhoods makes your weedy but interesting garden look soo much more gloroius! Puts it in perspective!

I love the idea of a weeding contest....hmmmmm.....last minute revision!

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Warning: I TurboWeed!!!
No contest necessary.

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Hmmm..... a turbo weeder....

Walk this way little girl....I have sweet home grown tomatoes.... just jump into the car for a minute......

Vashon, WA(Zone 8b)

Remember, you have invited to your homes a bunch of compulsive gardeners. We are not happy unless there is hands on participation . I will be bringing my favorite weeding tool.

Oh yes, weeding is such good fun! I'm so very happy that you ladies and gents are not expecting perfection in the garden. I am praying for something to be in bloom by the time the round up comes along. I should post photos of what it looks like now, because who knows what it will look like in August after being away for 2 weeks. As Rachel so aptly put it, I'm tired of being tied to hoses and sprinklers and am just about ready to allow nature to take over and the plants to go to their fate, living or dead.
If you were here today, this is what you would see. The 'Hot bed' is sizzling this year! I think I'm in love with banana leaves. I downloaded 300 photos tonight (I have not downloaded in a long time...) so I'll post a few tomorrow. Just now, the bed is calling me..

oooohhh - shiny things: Implements of Destruction for weeding!!!
My tools tavel with me in my truck...just in case.
I will be prepared for Extreme Weeding Activities.

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

Pixy, very pretty!

It'd be fun to compare and try out various weeding tools. I have a recent new fun one that I drove all the way into Seattle to get. It's a japanese hoe. Hubby loves it.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Man if I get all of to out here my worries would be over. the best I could do is a camp out. Plenty of wood to burn and lots of room for tents and some RVs but my house is to small for guests. And I have a friend up the road that we could use she has a outhouse LOL. And a RV park 2 miles away with all hook ups. Then we could weed and comb the peninsula and don't forget Heidi's LOL I'm dreaming. But it does sound fun.

OK GUYS! THE FINAL FORMAL ROUNDUP THREAD IS HERE!

OK, I have pretty much been MIA in the forums lately and am not going to even think about trying to catch up right now....BUT

I am butting in everywhere right now to post the link to our final roundup plans so that there isn't a chance of anyone that wants to join us missing it!

Hope to see as many people as possible there! Should be a great time!

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)
