What kind of fertilizer should I use for seeds, if any?

Chicago, IL

I have 3 different types of fertilizer, and I'm wondering which is best to put on my seeds to give them a good head start. Their compositions are: [% nitrogen - Phosphorus - Potassium] "10-15-10", "17-19-29", and "24-8-29".

For seeds or seedlings, should a fertilizer have more nitrogen, phosphorus, or potassium?

are the seeds in the ground or in pots? For my seedlings that I have in the basement I used water at first then as they got a little bigger I water and mist with a 1/4 strength solution of miracle grow. I think I would hold off on any whole strength fertalizer until the plants are much bigger.

I agree, whatever you use will need to be diluted more than for a larger plant. Someone else will probably have a better answer for you, but I'd probably go for something that's fairly balanced between the elements.

If your seedlings haven't produced true leaves yet, and just have their beginner leaves, don't fertilize. They are still living off the strength stored in the seed itself.
If your seedlings do have at least their first pair of true leaves, follow the above advice and start out with a very mild solution, always applied from the bottom (no overhead watering). I use diluted composted manure, manure tea. It is a very, very mild fertilizer and I don't have to worry about root burn from a stronger fertilizer.
