My Rododhendron and Azalehia ... problems ????

West Orange, NJ

Hi everybody.

I have TWO Rododhendrons and ONE Azhaleia (I don't know the correct spelling, sorry) in my front yard.
They both are small, maybe 15-20 inches each one, I can see the same plants poping up and very colorful in my neighborhood
BUT mines don't have any flowers... why?
My Rododhendrons SEEM to start poping Up... My Azhaleia looks sick, it has few NEW and very green leaves (I am sure they are new leaves) BUT still looks brown and with few leaves. I can see the another Azhaleias in my neighborhood very colorful with a lot of flowers !!!

I have them in my yard with NO other plants, just this three plants with RED MULCH over the soil, I've bought special food for this type of plants BUT I am not happy with their look. They have a lot of sun since they are in the front of my house.

I am frustrared... what's is going on ???

I will appreciate any help.

Thank you

I forgot to mention I am in North New Jersey.

Can you post a picture of them? It could be they have too much sun--I'm not sure how hot your summers are but in many areas they'll do better in some shade so that's one possibility, but a picture would really help.

plants need to breathe air. you may have too much mulch on crown of plant

(Zone 5b)

Mikelodeon I'm in the same zone as you, I can't grow rhodies or azaleas in full sun. They like filtered sun or part shade. Look around any parks near you, all the rhodies will be near trees. There are some that can take sun more than others, but I don't know what kind they are. They like to be planted shallow. Someone put azaleas in front of my house before we bought it (full sun), they struggled until I moved them. For some reason one thrived, but of the other 6 (yes they really crammed 'em in there) only 3 survived. I don't know why the one did ok, it may have got shade from my parked car.

How I post the pictures?

I have them in front of my house... so they have a lot of sun in mornings, but afternoon when sun moves they have shadow, they are aprox to 20 inches from my wall. Here in NJ summer can be real real hot !

I will post some pics.

Thank you

Rhododendrons are actually partial shade plants...aren't they? If they are, your best bet is to replant them in a spot that gets morning sun. Afternoon sun will likely be too hot. They should recieve at least four hours of light, but probably no more than six.
