I have some purple coneflower planted in a bed, but since they don't bloom until late summer, I'd like to put something else between the rows that will give it some interest in the spring. It is full sun, and I need something that is the same shape and size as the coneflower so it won't crowd them out. I I also prefer natives since it is a pollinator garden. I'm in zone 7b. Thanks!
Spring blooming plant suggestions
Coreopsis blooms early and is about the same height as coneflowers.
How about Lupine? Or milkweed?
Ditto to coreopsis. There are different varieties, any of which would probably work great.
Or Jacob's Ladder. Or penstemon. I don't know about in the south, but up here my coreopsis blooms at the same time as my coneflowers.
Here in 7b coreopsis is blooming now. Another thing that might work is daisies. You can find some that look native. haha My catmint is blooming now, but it will spread like wildfire in a cultivated area.
My jacob's ladder needs shade, so I don't know about putting them in full sun.
