Peonies.

Peonies. I have two peonies both about 3 years old they have been moved a time or to. When do you think these will bloom one has started to look like a shrub the other is just one stem. They where bought as just roots.

I don't grow peonies but, with your plants having been moved a time or two, they will likely need time to get over the transplant shock. Keep them well watered and just give them time. They may not bloom until next year, especially the one that is just one stem. Also, since they've been moved, don't put any fertilizer on them for the first several months as it can burn the roots. When I transplant, I use a root stimulator such as Miracle Grow Quick Start to help the plant put down good strong roots. After that I don't fertilize with regular fertilizer until the following year.

I transplanted a peony and it took about 3 years for it to get re-established. Two years ago I transplanted a second one. It is not blooming this year, I'm hoping that it will next year.

Three years--wow, you had to be patient waiting for that one to bloom! I love peonies but don't have a good place to grow them down here. Sure wish I did.

NatureLover, Peonies are one of those plants that don't take transplanting well, so it takes a while for them to re-establish themselves. This last peony I planted I dug up from an abandoned yard. It was in full shade and not blooming. I have no idea what color it is, so I wait patiently. I might have gotten a bloom this year had it not gotten trampled by my dogs last year, which set it back.

LOL--I know all about those dogs! We had to put an electric fence around all my flowerbeds to keep our dogs, especially the golden retriever, out of them. If a fence is not an option for you, try surrounding it with pine cones to keep the dogs away from it.

My peonies are taller than my dog, a Westie. She only goes in the garden when chasing rodents. I have to divide and move some peonies this fall.

Thankyou.
