Morning Glories 2009 #02

SV ~~ I too LOVE the trim on that, margins really set off the color~! Thanks Becky ~ LOL the word ''NOT'' must be under dirt; some stakes are hanging some are in soil. The Vine made another one today and the flower yesterday was still open when I got home in afternoon, which was great considering it was 90 + yesterday and heading up~! Morning storm vines and Grey Mist are doing well~thanks again Becky.

my i. batatas last year went nutz, I love them here is one picture from last august "Margaurite" it is so sad that you can't see that little shed anymore.. the neighbors put up a big wooden fence back there now..

Debra - Love all your vines on the fence from last year's photo! Awesome looking! Sorry to see the fence go up! You just need to grow the MGs higher this year! Ha, ha!

Also, your yard is so green ... lots of rain? What have you got growing in the garden in rows? Veggies?

Emma - Love those Batatas! Thanks for the list of cultivars, too! I didn't know there were that many different ones! I have two growing in pots and they are so attractive! Something I will be growing every year from now on ... :-)

lookie here what I salvaged from the neighbor.. they gave it to me.. it was on the other side of the north fence and had mg ivy leaf growing on it I planted for them.. I got the fence and the pods LOL my hubby wants it moved tho.. it is just sitting there precariously.. any ideas? I want to put vines on it of course..

here is a different shot.. oh, new patio set, the old picnic table fell apart.. *sniff* and this picture was taken after I hid all the pots of plants under the table, chairs, and bbq cover since it was about to hail..

I may have posted this a while back, but this was the patio in october of 08.. the i.batatas were overflowing.. you can't see the "blackie" it is on the inside of the barrels spilling out.. u ca barely see the picnic table, and the mg pole was turned into a wall on the north east end of the patio and un assembled in October because it was eating the iochromas and cleodendrums.., and u can see the big blue mgs on each side of my back door

Debra - Your backyard patio area is so pretty! You garden like I do ... a little bit of everything ... some in the ground and some in pots! Love your new patio furniture. I am huge fan of garden "rooms" to extend the living space of your home to the great outdoors. Given a choice ... I'd rather be outside instead of inside at any given moment! If I could sleep out under the stars at night without getting eaten alive by bugs ... well ... I'd be pitching a tent! lol My next purchase (when I hit the lotto) will be a Hammock attached to 2 post in my yard under the Elm tree. Then that is where you will find me all the time! LOL!

I try just about every plant to see what will actually grow and thrive here. I've been delighted to find out that some plants DO grow here in zone 10a that shouldn't! LOL!

Can't wait to see your backyard in full bloom! :-)

Here's the beginnings of something I hope will turn out great~ I have the Morning Storm (left) next to the Grey Mist (right w/ monster leaves) along fencing. getting hemp twine today as it's hitting HOT weather this week which means the leaves will tear easy when wilting with the heat! That is one thing I have learned~ with the heat and wind they are tres vulnerable to that. ...So a soaked twine is here the best bet for vining. Also in Falal I can Cut sections getting most all the seeds and dead vine in one swoop. Soon plants will hopefully grow over the ''trellis'' (large tree branch) and, meet Xiongs from Onalees in midway for this years planting.

joeswife, your backyard is great! I like a little bit of everything here and there too.

Here's a cutie from this morning, a really neat shade of magenta purple, on a shorty little plant, only about 5 inches tall.

We had about 1.5" of rain last night, everything looks so fresh and happy!

Cathy - Pretty little bloom!!
Looks a little like a Kikyo perhaps a Sun Smile vine. Very nice! I love to see my garden after rain too. Unfortunately, we've had very little rain so far this Spring. :-(

The weather said you'd be getting it today, Becky lol I have NONE. my mister is on full right now!! Debra, how do you mean shorter lived? Flowers or plants. Flowers, last longer I think .You must then, be meaning the plants themselves?
:D

Nice bloom Debra.

Hello everyone. I have been drooling over all the beautiful blooms. I was much more successful with my MGs this year. I had a mishap last summer that I dont want to re-live. I have lots of happy vines in hanging baskets and I have a second round of seedlings in peat pots that need to be put in their permanent homes. I am so excited.

Colin - Very nice photos (!)

Ron

thanks patootie, emma and ron...

the gray morning mist was slightly greyer than the pic suggests with pinkish overtones and the satin like shimmer seemed to float above it in the light.... it was wonderful to look at... it's still open now just much more pink :-)

the fujishibori is also still open, just a little wilted and the spots have turned from purple to red :-)

i've got a couple of other vines with buds ready to burst open tomorrow :-))))
