Morning Glories 2009 #02

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Colin, Count Drac I assume. It's a beauty.

thanks patootie... the seeds came fron sunshine seeds in germany as Jishi but it does look like it doesn't it.... :-)

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

Hey Colin - Nice kikyo here
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6520614

The 'jishi' term is often used by marketers in place of kikyo...
Maybe jishi has more sales appeal..

Here are some definitions of the Romaji jishi

jishi: private secretary, respectfully
jishi: the next child

contains jishi as the main root
jishin: courtier, attendant

TTY,...

Ron

thanks Darren... if you get seeds can i have some?

and thanks for the ID Ron... i was expecting darker and double flowers... you know, like the pic on the website... but it's lovely anyway... i've got a couple of other plants from that packet of seeds that haven't flowered... so maybe the next child! :-)

Mine is not a Count Dracula, Sorry~~I realized this (variation) the next time I went thru the thread, I have only a Jishi, IF its flowers are like that the seeds ARE yours, though. Dibs called. lol
Cheers and apologies~
:D
BTW Happy Moms Day to any in the forum~

Colin, If my Drac vine flowers and makes sds, will be glad to share
with you.

Mesilla Park, NM

smiling here::: I remember how much you liked the Count..lol

I've got quite a few seedlings going also. Well, it has been around for two years, enough time to be sold and resold under different names.. so, you bet it all over the world by now. I've sent some out to several people too.

I remember those first photos, it just blew me away.. I've got a surprise with a different color kikyo if I can keep it alive this year... Mrs. Dracula...lol

Here is this beauty, this was another one that came to me in a trade from a really nice guy. Only I have not been able to keep it going and it doesn't set too many seeds. The leaves on this are chartruse color... just stunning. Mrs. Kikyo Drac

I guess I could have put a better photo of the Drac, but they are stored in different folders.

Mrs. Kikyo Dracula is stunning. I`ll bet Dracula and she could have some beautiful little ones too like Dracula Jr.

I really do love the Count Dracula. Thanks for sharing.

A - I love your Mr. and Mrs. Count Dracula vines and blooms! Too cool! I wonder what you would get if you did cross them?

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Great pics A. I really like Mrs Drac too. Yes Count Drac is
still a favorite.Thank you for sharing them with me last yr.

Thanks Patootie... that would be great :-)

the vine i have isn't producing pollen so no selfed seeds :-( ... i have used the pollen from Hanaba and BAW succesfully but I hope it produces some pollen eventually...

love Mrs Dracula Gourd...

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

ceej, stay vigilant. Make sure your vine isn`t in a spot that gets too hot. A bit of shade cloth to filter the 12:00 sun can help. Not too much shade cloth because not enough sun will slow down production but it is the heat that is bad for them. Also, go out and check every morning and if you are persistent you will find a flower that has pollen to spread to the other flowers.

thanks gardener2005 i'll try that :-)

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

Gourd, those Count and Mrs. Dracula blooms are stunning!

Here are a few more pics from the last week or two. There are two vines of Kikyo in these pictures. The blooms are so pretty!

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

Thanks very much!

Becky, that crepe paper purple has one seed pod forming nicely, and a few others that look like they will form seed pods too. I check it every day. :-)

This is one of the crosses you sent me Becky, can't remember which one off hand. It sure is pretty though.

Cathy - The one above looks like a LYK cross because of the light blue outter band and the pink rimmed white throat. Nice! I don't know what the father might be though. Beautiful regardless!

Glad to hear that your NOID is making seed pods! :-) :-) :-)

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6541064 QUITE A BEAUT, HERE!!!

Darren - That is Fuji no Monet "NOT". I got the mother seed/vine from Beth as a grow-out but it did not produce the pattern that was hoped for, much to Beth and my disappointment. BUT ... I DO have a Fuji no Monet vine growing now and hope to get lots of seeds from it. If so, will certainly share some with you! Yours is really a pretty crepe-like color! Very delicate looking~ Your photos are great! Love that camera of yours! Sure picks up lots of interesting details. :-)

Oooh! Congrats on the HM job! Sounds like an fascinating place to work at!

EmmaGrace, your "blackie" is not really a morning glory. I have some and they are actually a sweet potato vine. But they are very pretty in a pot with other vineing plants. There is also a verigated one that is light pink and pale green. Very nice. alday

Darren, Your Fuji no Monet not is a beauty, great color.
Congrats on your new job.

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

Thanks fernman23. Congrats on your new job!

Here's today's bloom from a vine from a mix of seeds from Mountain Meadow Seeds. I'm trying to tag each vine, and take a picture with the tag, so I can collect seeds and know what they are.

Hi alday,
Oh GOODIE, I get to teach you something.

Ipomoea batatas 'Blackie' is in the CONVOLVULACEAE family, as are the Morning Glories, thus the name 'IPOMOEA'
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/53067/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweet_potato
http://www.hear.org/starr/plants/images/species/?q=ipomoea+batatas

AND,
Would you believe that the Sweet Potato is also in the CONVOLVULACEAE family as well:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweet_potato
The sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) is a dicotyledonous plant which belongs to the family Convolvulaceae.

I also have the Chartreuse Ipomoea batatas 'Margarita'
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/53068/
And the Tricolor Ipomoea batatas ‘Pink Frost’
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/53066/

Actually there are several cultivars of the Ornamental Ipomoea batatas
http://www.romencegardens.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/plants.kwSearchPost

'Sweet Caroline’
‘Black Heart’
including some NEW cultivars
'New Jewell'
‘Emerald Splash’

'Chillin'™ Limeade'
http://www.gardencrossings.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/plants.kwSearchPost
'Chillin'™ Blackberry Star'
'Chillin'™ Blackberry Heart'
Plus several others

Hope this helps,
Emma

PS: I worked in your city, Center, a few years ago when I worked for the area Telephone Directory

Here is my 'Margarita' growing last year

That is a stunning scarlet o'hara Emma, is it ipomoea purpurea or ipomoea nil?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I love the i. batatas, I have four of them, the tri colour pink frost, blackie, gold fingers, ace of spades, and margarite, and I love it when they bloom!
Darren beautiful! congrats!
SV: love the white edge around that one..

Center, TX

Hi EmmaGrace, Its so good to hear that there are other colors to choose from. I love the three that I have. I have only seen the first three. What other colors are there. Sounds like you have studied these extensively. The first big word you used went right over my head. But I still like my garden and yours is GREAT!!! lol Alday
