hey, Becky in this you said wisely:
'' I wish everyone had the time to make a garden blog on their DG account with names (whatever name you are using for your MG vines) and pictures. When I ask someone for seeds, I won't remember 2 months later. If the trader doesn't remember either ... well ... I usually miss out on a vine I'd love to grow. I also get seeds with names and no DG file. Probably because it was named by the trader. So I have this wonderful baggie of seeds, a name, but no clue whatsoever of what the blooms/vines might look like. ''

THIS is true~!! and a great Idea, I bought that digital camera for just that reason, this last Xmas~ But, I keep all my pics in a folder on my computer as opposed to learning the blogs on DG. It is easier to share them up to friends not on the site that way~ in the future I can maybe look at the Blog for DG and see how hard to import pics it is and keep it up todate as well as the HARDEST part, ~what is required~ to use it, that I think Is unnecessary info. A pic and a name is all I would want, eh?? (however much of a name to each individual) I am now going to look at my garden and enjoy it instead iof writing, lol, about it! :)

Darren (and all) - The Garden Blog is very easy to use. Go to the top tabs and click on "My Tools", then click on "Your Gardening Blog", and then use the tabs on the right to "Add a new entry", "Add a new tab", "Edit this tab", or "Change tab". Tab are the subfolders in your blog, entries are what you want in each tab. Just be sure you are in the right tab when you start adding or editing entries.

You can see that I have a LOT in my garden blog: http://davesgarden.com/community/blogs/m/beckygardener/

It is titled "beckygardener's garden diary". If you click on any of the tabs (titles), you will see I have photos under each one and a brief comment.

The other really nice thing about doing this...

If you want to show a photo or a topic that you have in your garden diary, you can just post the link instead of trying to find it on your hard drive. And if your hard drive crashes, your photos and info are still on DG. Sweet, huh?

I would love it if many here would do that. It would make it so much easier come trade time to go through each person's garden diary/blog to see what they have seeds for that I would like in a trade. (Hint, hint...)

Darren, try the Picasa program, it is free and it uploads your photos for you.. I love it.. it even saves the ugly ducklings so you can clear your card and start over, maybe you will need one of the other photos that you did not want to save later and you will still have it in Picasa. Let me know if you want the link for it.

Jackie, Nice Heavenly Blue.

A.

Gourd, It was YOU. lol! I did upload it to make a gift card for my mom of roses from her yard and thought Becky mentioned it~lol Most of my pics are constanly backed up to an externaal hard drive as I complete some folder, or like all of last years is on it. as I said my puter is pretty small space wise, BUT Picasa is cool ~thanks, a LOT~! tring to make the picture into a card~

Darren, how do you like it? I love Picasa.. gorgeous roses too, I'll be your mother loved it.

My hummers are here for a while, then I start getting the rufus when they start to migrate again, they are gold in color and very territorial and bossy..lol

My hummers are on the way, right now I have honey bees.. I am so excited.. beautiful pictures up there.. I can not wait to see all the blooms from my plantings .. I had my wonderful four last year, It will be hard to keep up with all that I have planted this year...what matters to me is that every seed I plant does germinate and show up for the concert in time..

Emma - Glad to see that your I.batatas here
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6500557
is producing flowers...maybe get some seeds too (!)..

The bloom here
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6500553
has a nice solid tube...good to know that you were able to over-winter this annual...maybe the overall bloom coloration will change as the season and the plant progresses ...

I have a huge seed pod and some smaller ones from this vine, and it is putting out new leaves.. It is in the planter with one tag that says pure white, but this is clearly a separate plant as the blooms are still attached.. is this an i.Nil or i.Purpurea?sp can't spell it .. hard for me to pronounce as well ..LOL I just want to know if I should save them as "lavender.noid" or "lavender with varigated leaves"

thanks.. Debra

Debra - The plant that you posted here
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6506104
is definitely an I.nil...the sepals are long and thin...

Your plant maybe...Hattie Bell

Back in the 1960's, 'Heavenly Blue' was all we had for MGs; it was like Yellowstone's "Old Faithful" in terms of reliability, and beautiful blue flowers were not often as available as other colors in the garden.

That's why it is a sentimental favorite amongst us older folks, despite being commonplace, even trite.

Yep, you said it, Ron C! And for the beginning/casual gardener, they are indeed quality.

And of the several different MGs I started in April (using the old paper towel method), the 'Heavenly Blue' were the first to germinate, breaking their seed coats in 36 hours, twice as fast as all the others. Decades of selective breeding by growers makes them practically bulletproof.

Especially great for senor citizens, kids' science participation, limited mobility folks....and people who work 65 hour weeks.

here is the seed pod on that plant.. I unraveled it fro its' twined state to investigate...

here is a good shot of a main leaf on the mystery plant with the big pods.. although some of them ARE varigated..

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

and now for some untangling to do.. earlier I had said that I would leave the lobata growing around the light cord downstairs where it was at.. but DH insisted I get everything outside that could go.. so ...here are the ones I had to get transplanted, unwound, and redone..

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

oops.. well! I can not believe I didn't take a pic of that lobata after undoing! shame on me! here are three of them with the group out back.. will be bringing them in tonight tho.. ( just the mgs)

Debra - They are all lookin' good! How cool is it up there still? Are many of these going against the chain link fence? If so, they are gonna look awesome! Keep the photos coming!

I sure wish it was cooler here. It's so dang hot now. Ridiculous! Where did Spring go? Seems it jumped right into the heat of summer in my neck of the woods ...

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Becky, today was rain rain rain.. as it has been all last week and week end, but it is getting up to 80's the rest of the week.. most of the mgs that are planted at the chain link fence are I.Nils a few from everyone.. tonight while watching tv I sorted all the mg seeds into packets marked from who and where.. they were in a pocket folder labled mgs.. now I can track .. all the seeds planted at the fence are marked with paint pens on a venetian blind tab.. these other ones are going to the beach area at my sons' house..

I like the Picasa, A~ I will possibly keep it or un and reinstall it as needed, I wont use the storage online unless I can find a way to keep an account in existence with the adaptability to do that~un and re install, the space ion my drive is small. I am going to try running it off my external 2nd hard drive. We shall seeee~ but the program is great, yeah~ Becky those hummers will be back I imagine ~
:D

Darren - Funny that you should mention my hummer. I was looking out the backdoor after I got home from work today and what do my wondering eyes do behold ... My little hummer is still here! I think that is the longest I've seen my hummer ... ever! I was thrilled. I keep planting flowering nectar plants in the hopes that they feed my butterflies, bees, and hummers! So far, it seems to be working! :-) :-) :-)

here's this morings Jishi...

it's all sunny and lovely here this morning... have a lovely day everyone :-)
