Planting depth for Crinums

Round Rock, TX

Does anyone know how deep to plant crinum lilies? My crinums have a "neck" of at least 8-10" above the bulb. I researched many sites and books but can't find the information I need to plant properly. Thanks!

Perhaps if you ask on the Lily forum, someone can help you with that question. This forum isn't watched by many as it's for help inputting information into the PlantFiles database.

The horticultural staff at Riverbanks Botanical Gardens in Columbia SC plants them with the neck exposed, just as one would pot up amaryllis. I have had success with this method with other similar bulbs, like spider lilies and surprise lilies. I've been told that these types of bulbs will "find their own depth".
