The same hoya has a new peduncle on the way, but I think it looks so cute with the new leaves...
May Flowers
Joni thanks for the pic of the leaf on your aff. fischeriana - they are very different
from H. pentaphlebia - I think you'll see the similarities when it blooms for you.
Gorgeous pics Christina, as always ! Would you mind posting a pic of your
aff. vitellina - I have one labeled H. vitellina, but it doesn't look like any of the
pics I've seen !?!
Oh, and does your H. verticillata like to grow on the drier side ?
Thanks !
Your apartments look like what the apartments looked like in "Let the Right One In"....minus all the snow, LOL
A first time bloomer for me. I got this one ages ago from a Canadian supplier totally mislabeled, and I'm pretty sure its H. pottsii, but I don't think its nicholsonae because there's no pink in the flowers at all, the corolla is a creamy colour with a white corona. But it sure is pretty. And what a lovely scent the flowers have!
Christine
Lovely blooms everyone!
Paula, that is an amazing shot . H heuschkeliana is one of my favorites, even though it's a sparse bloomer for me. I like the petite foliage and mmmm, it does smell like butterscotch!
Really nice, Lourdes. Mine blooms with pink corollas and I really like the contrast with the white.
Carol
Grr.......
I seem to have the kiss of death for H lacunosa........I love the smell, and then I see a photo like that one Lourdes........grr.....:))
Lourdes,
Outstanding Plant! I love to see the entire plant. It is more representational of size, shape, and over all health than a blossom only photo.
Doug
Beautiful shot!!
I wonder if DH would consider photo taking a valid reason to get us a pool?
Lovely shots Joni! Yes, lacunosa 'Tove' needs very bright light in order to have pink in the flowers. You should upload that shot into the plant files. I think there's only my first flowers, which is not a good shot - yours is way better.
LeeAnn, I think that's a valid argument for a pool. But you'd have to lose some of your amazing gardens!!
Christine
Christine,
I am moving Tove to the brightest spot on my patio now! Thanks for the confirmation.
I have the toughest time adding to PlantFiles...I get follow-up Dmail from the admin dept. questioning most of what I add. I told them the Hoya files are a mess and need to be cleaned up...really they are.
Thanks for the compliments ladies...a swimming pool is a great addition for sure. It's the only time I truely relax throughout my day.
Great photo's Joni!
I was just looking through Hoya's in PF earlier this evening and agree about it needing to be cleaned up. I wish Hoya's were listed in alphabetical order ... drives me crazy trying to find a particular one, having to scroll through so many pages, searching! I need to have admin delete my photo of H. acuta since it's name has now been changed to amoena. I couldn't find a listing in PF for H. amoena (or maybe I'm spelling it wrong?)
Very nice, Kelly!
Carol,
I think those blooms are the cutest...my bicknelli just sits...in a coma (?)
Joni
You all have such amazing plants. These blooms are so beautiful! I love the color combination on cv. Noelle as well as that one c alled bicknellii, very pretty!
I'm very excited as my shepherdii (hope that's spelled correctly) has buds for the very first time! I hope they don't blast, I can't wait to see the flowers! I think someone said this one is fragrant?
Yes Lin,
H. shepherdii is fragrant and your plant is gonna smell really sweet!
Joni
Allright! Thanks, Joni. I know I will be watching it every few hours, LOL.
Hi everyone. I'm still here. My son and DIL were here from S.I.NY.for two weeks, so I've been busy with them. Didn't have much time for computer. I've been looking at all the georgeous blooms. All I have blooming are three pubicalyx (Pink Silver, Splash, and a NOID) and a speckled obovata. I think the pubicalyx are all the same. The flowers look identical. One plant has lighter color leaves with more splash. I've been too busy to take pictures.
We had some brush fires, but none were too close. They started just before Mother's Day. Thank God it was not a repeat of last year. It rained a little yesterday, and now the rainy season is approaching, so that should cut down the threat of fire.
Hi Eileen, it's good to hear from you! I know last week or the week before there was a fire in Palm Bay and I wasn't sure if it was near your neighborhood or not. Glad you are okay and didn't have to contend with the fire. I saw on the news last night that there are now 105 fires burning around the state. There's one in my county, south of us, at the north end of your county ... last I heard that one had scorched 3,000 acres, but thankfully no homes were in danger. Hopefully after the rain we had a couple of days ago it helped to knock it down a bit! Tropical Storm and Hurricane season is just around the corner ... I have a feeling in August we will be wishing for the rain to go away!
SSsw - mealies can be such a drag!!! Even when I give my plants the BATS drench...the flowers/fruit don't carry the poison so everyone is home free on the flowers. That's when i bring out the alcohol and we have an OK Corral scene! They can be such a bother!!! I love that hoya you have...did the flowers last or just a day or two?
Carol
Sunshine: I love the foliage on that finlaysonii ... really nice! Cute blooms too. It's always a bonus when they have fragrance!
Mealies just seem to love the heat and humidity, don't they? I like your idea of spraying with alcohol. In the past I've sat for hours with q-tips and a bottle of alcohol, dabbing those little buggers, spraying would be so much easier! I have a new, unused spray bottle and I think I will label it and fill it with alcohol for my plants. Do you dilute the alcohol with water? I've heard some folks talk about diluting it but I've always used full strength. It evaporates so fast I wouldn't think it would harm the plant with a full spray as long as it's in a shady area.
Lin, I use it straight spray in the shady area. I am also trying 50/50 alcohol & water(32 oz) + 2 teaspoons Ivory dish soap
(bugs don't like it). Someone said it works on mites & mealies.
This finnlaysonii has card board like leaves.
