Problems with my peach and cherry trees.

Asheville, NC(Zone 7a)

I have peach tree I planted about a year ago it bloomed last year and this year but no fruit I think its a semi dwarf or a standard I bought the tree on sale it did not have much paper work left with it was missing I think. I think its a elberta I also have 3 year old red haven so I know polination not an issue peaches are supposed to be self fertile anyway but I got 2 just to be sure. I have 2 cherry trees a Bing and Black Tartarian both have bloomed both are 2 years old still no fruit I have too so I know polination not an issue I have also heard there self fertile I put too just to be sure. The peach and cherrys where bought at local retail store and potted they are 5 foot tall. I have even covered the trees to stop frost. What do you think is wrong the cherrys are dwarf I think.

someone told me when u plant a peach tree, u aren't supposed to water it for the first year in the south at least. Dont know if u have frost knocking the blooms off, or the fruit, or if maybe the fertilizer is the wrong kind for the tree, or even if your soil is the right acidity for fruit trees, but all this can make a difference

I have not fertilize my peach thats been there 5 years it produces fruit everyyear. And before I moved one of the pears it produced. I wonder why the 2 year old peach blooms but know fruit. My bonfire peach is susposed to be just a flowering peach and it has little peaches on it so I wonder why a real peach tree does not want to produce fruit. I thought bonfire where supposed to be mostly flowering ornamentals.

an established fruit tree gets nutrition from deeper than new ones. Trees can be mis tagged n may actually be a different tree than u thot u had, Fruit trees have a limited amount of fertile years, and usually the designation 'ornamental' can mean only that it is a male gender tree. am not an expert, by any means. some trees bear fruit that is not edible, or wont mature, too. u moved your pear, root shock. a good pear will start a new tree with just a cutting stuck in the ground, or most should, some varieties might not... but roots r important not to disturb

Here some photos of the bad looking blooms on the pear. I am pretty sure they are the fruiting kind the first one fruited before I moved it and the second newly planted one has flowers that look the same and last year year it made small fruit. Then they turned black and brown. I covered themlast year so I know its not frost damage. And my peach is still making baby fruit and I did not cover it this year and we have not had much frost this spring.

u have the new ones in pots?, not ground planted?

Leaf curl is an indicator of a contamination, bug or disease, i am better at driving an 18 wheeler than jogging the memory of old passions, n not great at computer. back soon

ok, Peach Leaf Curl, is a fungus, didnt check to see if was Black Knot fungus in a plum, but the websites show a site that talks of Ky probs with these fungi. Like I said, I like Ask.com to help me find what I dont know how to search for... usual symptoms r leaf curl, death of the fruit...

The peach tree thats not produced has not been mis tagged you can tell by the leaves its a peach tree and when the Kieffer Pear made fruit you could tell by the fruit the other one thats never produced yet has the same blooms and leaves and the same shape. The pears are a green pear.

I had peach trees years ago, they are one of those constant care trees around here in east TN. I found a spray at HD that treats multiple problems with fruit trees ie. blossom rot, leaf curl and twig borers as well as other insects. You had to spray as soon as trees began to leaf and stop as first blooms opened then resume after last blossoms dropped. The fungal problems here, I was told, had to do with our humidity which normally is high. the bugs, well they are bugs and will infest as bugs do. As I recall it was an ortho product and not very expensive. One concentrated jar lasted about two full growing seasons. As with most products you have to cease use several weeks prior to harvest. I am not sure if there is an organic product availible to treat the symptoms you currently are experiencing. Maybe one of the other folks here might have an idea. If recall it took several years for the trees I had to produce any real quantity of peaches. Takes em a little time to get established. I would assume same with the relocated pear. I fed mine with a fruit and veg. mix powder around the drip line just to keep the trees healthy. That spray also treated fruit bottom rot after the trees put on fruit.
