OK, Haystack, here's your update. :)
This is the first one that came out of the shell, he's still the dominate chick. He's the first one there when I poke my finger in or open the cage... He's also the only one who isn't feather legged. :)
Here I go!!
That last pic is precious, with his/her neck all stretched out. Mine have passed the cute stage so now I think I should get the bator off the shelf. Argh, what am I thinking. not yet, not yet.
Thanks for sharing those beauties, ten days old, WOW YOU ROCK.
Melissa! Keep in mind I'm in the market for a good blue/copper Roo and would much rather buy from friends than total strangers. Haystack
update, we lost the white one this week... just dead in the cage one morning.
Now, mr. #1 is a quick learner... I showed him once how to jump on my arm.... now, when I open the door of the house, (they've moved from the kitchen table to the back deck) he's standing at the door to the cage waiting. Hubby changed their water this morning and when he reached in to get the water, guess who jumped on his arm waiting for a look around?
Oh Melissa he is darling! I love the awkward teenage bald spot stage! All my lil Ameraucanas are like that.. they crack me up! He is really pretty!
Awww.. A snow angel.. LOL Mr Hay!!!
cute kitty haystack!!
My next adventure starts after they fix this electric.... we have electric, but they have to put in a new circuit box, and the electrician "forgot" about me... they're supposed to be here monday, then I'll fire the bator back up, get it stable, put the eggs in the turner and forget them for 18 days!
Thank you ZZ. :) That's his name by the way... he wouldn't have been here if it weren't for you and email! ;)
Oh Melissa!!!! I have a huge lump in my throat!! Thank you!! You are such a love.. :)
Those were some tense moments.. I gotta say that.. but it was my pleasure for sure.
Let's hope the next batch is easier!! :)
Hey Taynors!!! Watch with me for Mel's upcomming hatch, We make a great instigation team I think. LOL Haystack. You know Taynors getting birds like that just is not right. Do feel a smidgeon of guilt? I hope so. Hay
she should feel guilty! yours are ready to lay eggs already!
please can anyone help, i lost almost all my chicks at day 18 out 30 of eggs i got 10 chicks all were all good and ready to hatch they died in the shell every thing was right temp, and humity, iam so heart broken they were white and black cochins, i have never had this happen befor any ideas? i have hatch for a long time so iam not new to this help my first batches all came out ok now will have more to come out in a week iam so scared now. thanks for any ideas
Sue. you don't need a rooster for eggs... only for fertilized eggs. :)
Cooksterann, you still got a better hatch rate than I did. I don't think I would have gotten the 8 to hatch that I did if I hadn't stood the eggs up in cartons on day 18 (thank you again ZZ)
It sounds like from the limited knowledge that I have that yours drowned in the shell.
Forgot.. the electric is fixed, and the bator is plugged in!!!!
Giggle oh yeah i forgot that part Melissa LOL
i made some nest boxes but i think they are to shallow :( they just kick out the straw ? silly birds
well i got some of them plastic office file thingys so i will try them
until i get more deeper nest boxes made
yeah the electric is fixed for you ! what a relief that is .
oh bater is in too. how many eggs this time or did i miss that in a earlier post ?
on my way to get some manure for the chickens
later
I think I have 36 Copper Marans going in this time... I'll use a few of our own eggs to fill the turner I think. Hopefully in the morning.
Ok Mel, thats the final straw!! I saw that Roo, and that is just what I have been looking for. He was supposed to be mine. Yeah! and where did you get all the copper marans eggs?? I want some, black or blue copper.
Haystack, I've got a roo for you right now.... This thread is getting long... so let me start another one... my Black Copper Marans adventure just got more adventuresome.... ;)
He's saying, "I want to live in Haystack's cool coop."
