I'm glad you could see it that time! :)
I threw out 2 tonight... one was clear with a blood spot in it and the other was just infertile I think.... I don't have the stomach to crack them open. I don't think anything was developing in either one though, and by now, there should have been something.
These were lighter colored eggs, the darker ones I can't see anything in at all.
Today is 12 full days.... I'm more than half way through! :)
Here I go!!
Great video!! wooohoo half way home. :)
I stop turning Tuesday or Wednesday! I'm excited to see how many I end up with.
Wow, that video is so neat. I candled mine, but only saw dark blotches. Nothing moving around like that. Awesome!
I'm glad you liked it! I may try another one to show how much they've grown. :) The movement is much more pronounced now, and tonight I made out a foot!
I also threw 2 more away, there were no veins in them, and looked like the yolk moving around when I moved the egg.
I had a scare with the incubator, it was reading 41 celcius. I removed the lid and let it get to 37 before I put the lid back on, checked a couple of the eggs and they were still moving around. I'm scared to death it's going to fluctuate and kill them.
Somebody who's close by please go over and hold Melissa's hand, before she has a hearattack. Fatal attraction is setting in I think.LOL Haystack
I'm fine Haystack, I just don't want to kill them before they get here! LOL Only 2 more days til I stop turning and hope they do their thing!
Sue, mostly in these I have different Marans. I also have Wellsummer, and a few from our own hens which are a white that I have no clue what they are, they lay big white eggs, but are small birds, crossed with a Buff Orpington Rooster, and Barred Rock with Buff orpington rooster.
The next batch, I'm only going to get enough eggs to almost fill the egg turner, this time, I ordered enough to fill the turner, and they all sent extra, so I had too many to fit in the turner.

Has anyone done Dry Hatching?
I think I'm going to try that with the next batch.
Here's a link
http://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=113681&p=3
Personally, I wouldn't try it myself.. it's to dry here. If you see in the link, they are incubating in a room with 50% humidity.
When you peel your first "shrink wrapped" dried out chick.. you might change your mind!
I'm not saying don't do it.. I'm just posting my opinion.
Good luck to you!
Uhhhh, Ahhhhhh, Ouchhhhh, Ohhhhhhh, Dry Hatching??? That sounds so painful.
Taynors!!! Can't you just see Melissa? If one of those babies jumped up and said Hi to Melissa, she'd fall over backward and just faint. You know she's staring holes through those eggs. Com on Melissa tell us how your really feeling.LOL Hay
LOL That's about it Haystack! I had some dry chicks and nearly plucked em trying to get the membrane off!!
Melissa is in pre hatch trance.. probably no getting through right now.. dangerous...
Listen for her to start muttering.. Come out lil Wut Wut babiez! Come out! Push hard boo boo..
LOL You guys are funny! No pink rollers, no staring a hole through the eggs, I've turned them 3 times today, and just wondering if I should put them in the cartons tomorrow or tuesday. Remember, I work too... and with all the rain, youngest son is going to have a ball game almost every night this week to make up the rainouts, and oldest son's graduation is the 29th with his party the 6th... live band, lots of food and libation if anyone wants to come. ;) and if I get a 50% hatch rate, then 28 new chicks to play with. ;)I've been cleaning and painting and sending announcements out and doing lesson plans and grading tests besides watching eggs. ;)
I Threw out 5 more today, and I think one of my white ones is dead in the shell, no movement at all. The other white one is still showing some movement, but I've left the one I think is dead in there anyway just in case. If I used a stethoscope, could I hear the heartbeat? Realizing that question makes me sound like the crazy lady you guys think I am. LOL
I put them in the incubator on the 1st around 10PM. So my start date is close to the 2nd which is why I was going to put them in cartons on the 19th, but may just do it tomorrow night, not sure.
We normally have extremely humid summers here too... which is why I kinda wondered about the dry hatch. The bator was maintaining 35% humidity with all the water gone from it. I put like a teaspoon in it to bring it up to 50%.
Sue, you should know better! I don't drink Coffee! LOL
I'd put them in cartons tomorrow night and fill the water reservoir to bring the humidity up... It is safe to stop turning a day or two early.. actually I think Catscan told me day 14 is safe..
It's a good thing you will be busy.. the next few days take just as long as the first 18... LOL
Yeah! Put em in the carton, then take em to the farmers market. Oh poor Melissa, BooHoo! She has so much on her plate. Wait !!! Melissa, I was kidding! don't take em to the farmers market. Take em to the funny farm, when it's all over your gonna need a rest. Have Fun Mel. WOW I love giving you flak. Haystack
OK, ZZ tomorrow night it is. You've given me such great advice, all of you have, and I appreciate it so much!!
OK, so the first chicks out get the names ZZ, Sew, Haystack, Catscan..... and so it goes.... LOL I'll have all of you with me all the time!!
Haystack, I work with 16 and 17 year olds all day.... I can handle a little flack from you! ;)
My students think I'm crazy anyway, but I have a few that say they're camping at my house next weekend to watch chicks hatch. LOL
awwwwww that one is cute!!! I couldn't handle only having 3 though! That wouldn't be as much fun!
Sue, you need to do this! The kids would LOVE it!
In reality your one great sport, and I appreciate you. We don't do a lot of hatching but we bought the three egger because we loan it to the schools for school projects. I wish you all the success in your adventure. Always Hay
Oh that will be a fun flock of crazy chickens! With Haystack crowing all over.. LOL LOL
Thanks Haystack!
ZZ it's going to be a fun flock!!
Has anyone seen this on ebay? I read the feedback, and one person said that it worked... hmmmm interesting.

Melissa, I would rather be known as the crazy chickens lady than the crazy cat lady anyday!! :D
I am so glad you are having fun with this. Wish I was there!!!!!
I know i know . I want to .
George is giving me some of his birds. So maybe next spring we will do it. IF we get a rooster LOL can't forget him.
My word woman , i knew you were busy and to add hatching eggs. You are woman here me roar !!! girlfriend ( snap with a twist )
Im with sew also on the crazy chicken lady , not a crazy cat lady LOL
87% humidity, do I want it higher?
Should I lower the temp any?
Is that humidity RH or wet bulb? My hatching humidity was 65% RH. The Storey guide says hatching wet bulb should be 88-91.
No need to lower the temp.. waiting to hear what kind of reading that is.. I've hatched at that Rh and higher.. I usually hatch in the 70's now.. but it might be my hydrometer.. it's a cheapie.. I just make sure I have condensation on the glass.. then I know I'm okay.
There's condensation on the glass. I bought a Hygrometer from Ebay. one side is the temp and the other is the humidity. I just figured out tonight how to change it to register in degrees instead of celcius. LOL It's at 83% right now, so I guess I shouldn't put a wet sponge in it?
Hey Taynors: Melissa said theres condensation on the glass, I think they are just sweat beads! What do you think? Mel i'm sending a dry hanky that says "Whats all the Fuss" Ok Mel, Breath deep, let it out slowly, good thats good OXYGEN!! Where's the OXYGEN? Somebody get the QXYGEN. Mel it's gonna be alright !!!! Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaastack.
LOL you're funny Haystack!
Melissa!!! We can't go on this way, I know your the Queen of drama, but I'm not in that class. WHAT'S HAPPENING? M E L I S S A!!!
NOTHING is happening Haystack, and let me tell you, I don't like it!
ZZ says I'll have pipping tonight... we'll see.
My temps are varying from 97-99 and humidity is 80-87%
Oh gosh.. Now I'm pacing the floor for Melissa.. She has a power outage! Of all days to loose electricity!
Everyone send warm fuzziez to her baby chicks to stay warm in the eggs so they can hatch!
Thank you for holding my had from California ZZ! The temp is coming back up... no pips yet, and the humidity is fine.
That was so stressful for you I'm sure! Even I was nervous! LOL Actually, I don't think it's as bas since it's so close to hatch time.. I don't think it's NEARLY as bad now as it would have been early in the incubation. I hope you'll have pips when they warm up..
