Your hemlocks are healthy, Bill?

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Patti, That is the Epimedium Youngianum. It's new last fall & the whole plant is about 6" wide by 3" tall. It's the tiniest of my Epimediums. An amusing line up.

Wha, sounds like a job for the professionals with a bucket loader to take them down in sections. Big bucks. DH uses the truck and ropes to assure that the trees he takes down end up where he wants them, but having a whole grove is tough, not to mention the power lines. If they get rotten enough, call the power company and they might take them down.

We got one big tree taken down in Vt courtesy of them, as it was about to wipe out the lines. But another big tree, they decided was our problem. We have left it so far as it is too big for us to do and the cost would be many hundreds of dollars. When when it falls, it will go toward the brook and do no damage. Here it is. You can see how rotten it is at the base.

Redchic01, maybe you should come east and become for some of us, our personal Lumber Jackie and garden photographer and general inspirationalist for planting new things. You could do a big loop and visit us all. Patti

stormyla, stunning. I planted Fairy Wings 'Nanum' last spring. I have to check tomorrow to see if it survived. It is my first try with Epimedium. Love them, but pricey little gems that might get lost in my jungle.

I notice one of the Leucojum aestivum in this, not so clear, photo taken this morning with Tulipa Spring Green, so you can compare the height of it. That is our pal, Clarence who was a house gift from NY friends who carried it on the plane to Nantucket in a black garbage bag, many years ago. He is now in pretty rough shape with his head about to fall off. Patti

funny shot Stormy... couldn't plan that if you tried

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Patti. I checked again today & they seemed to have doubled in size almost over night!

The Hardy Plant Society http://cthardyplantsociety.org/ has an annual sale here with participation by many great vendors.

Garden Visions http://davesgarden.com/products/gwd/c/4408/ had a booth of nothing but Epimediums ranging from $7 to $60 each. I bought a dozen of the under $10 variety. They come in all different sizes.

Lets hope Clarence keeps his head! Lovely garden.

Stormy..... gorgeous picture of the tulips and daffs. That's a really nice combination there!

Patti.... Clarence is awesome. That's a great picture too! Lol. I would absolutely love to do all that you mentioned! That would be such a riot! You'd all see me walking up your driveways with a saw in one hand and over shoulder, and a camera in the other hand. Whadda funny sight that would be! lol But you give me way to much credit for being inspirational since most of the views of plants that I see here are what inspires me to take pictures!!!! However, don't ever discount the thought that I'll be there, because if i ever have the money saved up and the time off of work..... I am going to be there!!! The last trip that I made out to the east coast I drove from here to there, with a friend, and flew back. The next trip I've decided that I'm going to fly out and back, but rent a car and be a vagabond of sorts all over the areas that I want to see. However, I'll have to work on borrowing a saw once I get out there as I don't think that they'll allow mine on the plane??? Never thought of that before. lol!

Redchic01, We have a couple of chainsaws and I saw that Wha has 2, and I am sure Pixie has some, most likely Victor has one too and no doubt anyone up in NH must have at least one, and I know Boojum has one too. We could have a Chainsaw RU in your honor and all wear wool plaid shirts. Shall I plump a pillow for you? Patti

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

ROTFLOL. Oh, most definitely looking forward to that pillow!!!! I'll let you know when the date actually shall happen. Right now I'm thinking that it will be summer or fall of next year....... if everything works out perfectly. I'd have fun will all of those saws to choose from. ohhhh I forgot to mention up above. I love your term lumber Jackie. That's the first term that I've heard that fits and I've been looking for a long time too. Lumberjack clearly isn't right! Lumberwoman is too weird sounding. Lumberperson just sounds too PC and doesn't "roll" off of the tongue quite right. LumberJackie is absolutely perfect!!! and my co-workers will love that too!

late night for you?

Can I be your chainsaw caddie? I'll bring my camera!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Patti the bulb timing in my garden is different every year depending on cold snaps. The daffs are often much early than the tulips but this year they will be together.

Thomaston, CT

Very nice photos----Patti, very clever name! If you are coming east next year, Shelley, we'll line up some must see places in New England-----most of my favs are along the coast. Bill, your lilacs are way ahead of mine---my earliest has one bloom opening.

Almost a year later I get the stinking bark in! Things are coming back from last year. I am planting in there and to tell you the truth - I DONT Know what I am doing! The back (left side is full or basically full. The front (right side) has some but not much.

I planted 3 lavender grape poppies and 3 persian blue poppies. I have been following way Joanne said - that they wont bloom this year? Is that true? Also the roots dont like to be messed with. Well I messed with them. They are babies that were potted in 2" peat pots. I ripped the pots right off them. The are 1" tall and 1" wide..

Great shots, all! No chainsaw for me. I saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Scarface - took care of me for good

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I hear you Victor. I can't even use electric hedge trimmers. Almost cut off my thumb with an electric knife once so I stand way back from buzzy bladed things now.

:-) No Clue - Mosquito Hawk?
