Millet

Hanover, PA

I have a parrot and feed him Millet alot.. I have looked for Millet seeds EVERYWHERE but I cannot find seeds to plant some so I can dry my own... Is the millet that I get for him , the seeds???? If I plant them will they start new plants??? Or do they sterilize(?) it some how and they would not come up????

You might try starting them and see what happens--since parrots are more of an indoor bird I suspect they wouldn't take the time to purposely sterilize the seeds, although I don't know how they process them from the time they leave the millet plant to when they make it into the bag, so it's possible they get damaged in the process and won't sprout. But you have nothing to lose by trying except a little time.

The millet that goes into birdseed seems to sprout with no hesitation at all, in my experience!

Millet from store bought seeds are very easy to grow. My birds dirty their drinking water with some, and when I pour the water out in my plants, I have sprout popping out, in a few days.
