I wonder if the birds really know how much of a positive contribution they make to our daily lives. And also, their economic impact. The growth of this forum is a reminder of that contribution. So, on we go, to ...... Vol. #309. There were so many great photos on the last thread that, if you missed them, please revisit at:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/980418/
I'm going to open the new thread with a short series of photos of the Chickadee. I live in a region where the range of the Carolina Chickadee and the Black-capped Chickadee overlap. Within this region, the two species do hybridize. So, I challenge the viewers to tell me which Chickadee these photos represent. Because, I don't know ............... I didn't capture the voice which is apparently the best way to tell the difference. But then, what does the hybridized Chickadee sound like ?
DAILY PICS - VOL. #209
Oops...I posted just as the new thread was created.
Great pics Linth! Thanks for starting the new thread!
Beautiful Goldfinch burn!
Quote from dellrose: "Peeper..GP in Florida told me last year that the Indigos like Finch Food so I made sure I had some ready for them! Keep watching..hopefully more will show up."
Yes! When they were here, they were after the Nyger. In fact, they seemed to prefer eating the Nyger seed that had spilled on the deck over getting it from the feeder. So when I filled the feeder I accidentally-on purpose spilled a little more. :-)
What about plants? Anyone notice particular favorites where they hang out?
Wonderful shots Iris!!
Love the Rose-breasted Grosbeak!!
Yes thats a House Finch (female).
Thanks linthicum for giving me another chance to reiterate my earlier post.
Just love everyone's shots, especially IRIS -- what a gorgeous Rose-Breasted Grosbreak. Don't know why but I don't see many of them here in SW Virginia. A Blue Grosbreak was at my friend's feeder last week and I'm still kicking myself because I didn't have my camera.
Here's my earlier post from the previous forum:
Our Bluebirds have babies in their boxes. Here in Virginia a pair raises 3 or 4 broods in a Season. Here's one of the Mama's with a snack. I also posted her on the Mid-South Forum.
I'll setup a ladder and take pics of the fledglings. Hope they turn out OK. When I peeked in one of the boxes today, the little ones were all mouth.
Thanks all! And thanks for the update pelletory
I'm going to have to put out some thistle seed/nyger seed, I had blue indigo bunting a couple years ago and would like to get them again!
FruitOfTheVine, The poor RB Grossbeak is scarred off easy by other birds at the feeders, Especially the Mockingbird who is a bully to the other birds at times as he comes in to eat his grape jelly and oranges.
Don't feel too bad about not getting that shot of the Blue Grosbreak , I've kicked myself many times for not having my camera with me at the right moments! lol!
I look forward to seeing your posts of the BB babies!
I have a Bluebird and Chickadee family going here too, Just love watching them and hearing there sounds when I have time! I'll try and get a photo of the BB's tommorrow ( Or should I say today ..2:21AM) I do have a shot of the mom and baby of the chickadee .. There are more babies, But, You can only see two in the photo.. The chickadees box opens from the side and has a plexiglass viewing window ...

bluebirds are so cute!
Thanks Iris, those are so cute!
Wow, what great way to start each morning. I have lots of different birds here at home, but seeing everyone elses here makes it twice as good.
Pelle, thanks for the name of my owlet. Your wp sure enjoys the food you provide. Maybe my suet isn't high enough off the ground? I keep buying all different kinds and all the other birds enjoy them.
Here's one of our Clark's Grebes.
What a Great way to start the day, Always enjoy the newly added photos!!
pelletory, I just love that bluejay shot! I got one this morning but i didn't come out as good as I hoped, Happy to get one though anyway!
