BEFORE you plant your potatoes, you NEED to read this thread, started by Hoosier Green, on planting potatoes under STRAW!! I found it just last night!

It sounds like it keeps weeds down, keeps moisture in, makes it easy for the potatoes to grow, saves your back and time, makes growing potatoes FUN, and a lot more! Found at: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/937306/ It is found in the Vegetables forum. Make sure you scroll down and read all that Hoosier Green posts – especially the first two posts. …….I’m going to try growing my potatoes under straw this year!! There’s no sense doing it the “hard way”! Enjoy! :)

Thanks for the tips but I only have 2 and this is just for foliage.

I had 2 small pots. leftover from a dish I made and they had buds on them. Why not? I thought. Give it a shot. If I get potatoes out of it, all the better. I have empty spaces I need to fill.

Glenda--I raised mine under straw this year and it works great. I grow them for new potatoes and it's really nice to be able to get them out without ruining the skin on them. Anyone who grows their own potatoes won't want to go back to store-bought again!

LOLOL-it's the wrong time of year here for me to grow them-but I think I may keep them. I can't wait to try the straw growin recipe!!!!!!!!!! :)
