New Earth Box-er needs some info

Jacksonville, FL

I am starting up 4 Earth Boxes and have no green thumb. Besides tomatoes what grows lavishly in the Earth Box in sunny North Florida now?

Also what is the easies and cheapest way for a lady to attach a water system to the boxes that is not so fancy but work? I was thinking some sort of splitter with a sprinkler timer and run it for one minute a day to keep the 4 full?

Also what kind of trellis works on this system well amd wont blow over in the wind. I guess I can attach it to my fence too with fish line so no one sees it. The Earth Box trellis looks nice but is very expensive so what else is there?

I don't know much about Earth Boxes, but I do know that they are a self-watering planter, so the correct way to water them is to fill up the reservoir, then when the reservoir gets close to empty you refill it again. You probably don't need to refill it that often, so I don't know that you need to worry about setting something up on timers, I'd probably just keep an eye on it and refill it all at once when it's getting close to empty.

As far as trellises, I seem to remember reading somewhere that the EB trellis is not as sturdy as would be ideal for tomatoes, so you might check your local nursery/home improvement store for something that looks a little sturdier.

Check out the forum "Self-contained Box Gardens" here on Dave's!

You basically can grow just about ANYTHING in them! Even corn!

I'm an EarthBox newbie, too. Just got my first box set up last week. You'll find more experienced "Earthboxers" at the EarthBox website, in the forum:

Check out the video tutorials on the EB website, while you're at it.

By the way, the company/inventor of the EarthBox is located in FL.
