Planting Rhubarb/ Berries in central IL in late April

Granville, IL

Is it too late for me to put out plants? Is there any way to help the plants get a better start even though it is not "early spring?"

I don't think it's too late--with many plants you wait until after your last frost date to plant them, and I think your last frost date is probably in mid to late May.

Mumra, ecrane3 is right. It is not too late to plant. I've planted rhubarb late April and early May with good results. You can begin harvesting your rhubarb next year.

The only way to stop Rhubarb from growing is to overwater it. I had a new garage put in a few years ago. The patch was in the way so it got moved. I lost some of the roots and found them next spring growing out of a pile of leaves.

What kind of berries? Straw, black, Raspberry??

Rhubarb is quite cooperative. It can be dug and divided almost anytime although Spring and Fall would be the best time. Therefore it can be planted anytime the hole is ready.
