I am building a short retaining wall on the slope on the side of my house. I'm using treated lumber (the newer non-arsenic kind), but I still would rather try to keep any chemicals out of the soil, and, this project has honestly been a huge pain, so I don't want the wood deteriorating any time soon and finding myself having to do redo this. Does anyone know if it is helpful to line the inner side with plastic before filling the bed back in with the soil? It seems like it would keep it drier, but maybe could also just trap moisture in there. I haven't been able to find much online on the topic. I'd so appreciate the help!

I haven't been on DG in a couple of days sorry no one had posted for you. Maybe landscape fabric doubled but I would be afraid of the plastic.

You could try using something like lapping cement for roofs, or Henry's 208 wet/dry roof leak patch. It's basically tar...just paint it on with a brush and coat it well. This should make it pretty impervious to water damage.

I've used it many times on raise wooden beds and the wood held up amazingly well. Let it dry before you backfill with soil.
