Will a 5-day heat wave ruin my germinating snow peas?

Media, PA

I finally managed to get my snow peas and lettuces in more or less when I should, by the second week of April, but before the seeds could really germinate we had a weird 5-day heat wave with temperatures about 90 degrees. Is this likely to ruin the snow pea or lettuce crop?

Thanks,

I have the same questions. I'll be watching to see the results. Good luck, Shikaku.

I live just across the river from Wilminton, DE.

We've had numerous hot days in central Texas (weeks of 80+) and my sugar snap peas are fine. I lost the first planting to rabbits, but the second planting (after trapping and relocating the rabbit) is growing fine. They just started blooming this week. I've had decent production into June in previous years. They stop producing/burn up when we start having sustained periods of 100 degree heat.

That's good to know...... Mine are in a stage of just sitting there (producing roots presumably) and not growing all that much though they look right perky; I was a bit concerned about whether they would actually start producing fruit before it gets too hot! even though I did sow them in February. I am reassured. ;-)

And Shikaku, we have had rather wild swings of temperature here as well with days up into the 80s and some nights then down in the 20s, so I sympathize. My lettuce, BTW, is fine through all that though there has been a little crispy leaf edge burning on some of the leaf lettuce. Still doin good though.

It's been a crazy spring, weather-wise. I have some sugar snaps that are eight inches or so, and others that are barely out of the ground. Something keeps biting off the tips - I suspect it's birds. Yesterday (Sunday) I planted pole beans in the same row as the peas. With a bit of luck, I'll get peas and beans!
