Transplanting peat pellets to peat pots?

New York, NY(Zone 7a)

I have a variety of different seedlings growing in jiffy peat pellets. The cherry tomato seedlings are ready to be moved into larger peat pots (have at least 2 sets of true leaves) until night temps. average above 50-55 F. Going to plant them pellet and all with most of the stem under soil since I learned tomato produces roots from the burried stem. The seedlings have been bottom watered.

-In peat pots do you still bottom water, or top water the normal way (concerned bottom watering will cause the peat pots to fall apart.?

I always prefer to water from the bottom so I don't disturb the soil around the plant's roots. I don't know what your last frost date is but surely it can't be too far? The peat pots shouldn't have enough time to fall apart in this short period of time.

I usually use the peat pellets. This year I used the peat cups and watering from the top can really disturb the soil over your seeds. It is better to water from the bottom.

It seems like a lot of effort when you can probably plant outside in a week or so.... Ed

When I've had to hold peat pellets a few weeks longer without potting up, I've spread damp potting soil over the top of the trays of pellets. It helps keep them moist and if roots start into the soil they come apart easily.

Thanks for all the tips.

When your new at something, I guess you tend to make things more complicated than need be at times.
