I am new to gardening. I planted tulips, daffodils, hyacynths last fall. Generally the colors and arrangement look good but I'd like to move a few of the tulip bulbs so the colors and groupings will look better. Can I dig them up and move them or??? I'm in Kansas City. Thanks.
Can I move tulips now?
In general, bulbs like you mentioned should only be moved in the fall. This is because tulips, etc. only transplant well in the fall.
Make sure you mark where they are because when you go to dig them in the fall the foliage will have died back.
I moved tulips yesterday.
Last year I put tulip and dutch iris bulbs where I decided I want a rose bed this year so I spent yesterday moving the bulbs to the naturalized section of my yard. I cut all the flowers off and brought them indoors to enjoy and them then I moved the foliage so it would bie back naturally. The iris I potted up to wait for die back. I will dry out the bulbs and replant them this fall.
As long as you pot them and replant later or move them so they can die back where you want them you should get blooms next spring.
