How to kill chinese wisteria vine

Old Bridge, NJ

Hello,

I am starting a new garden on a side of my house where a fence is basically overrun with chinese wisteria. I know some of its shoots will try to spread through my garden and new roots will pop up in place irregardless of how much I pulled out, but is there a way to just be rid of it. I know this site is about creating gardens but this thing has run its course and it sort of came with the house, but now I would like to be done with it. Any ideas?

I don't know how to get rid of it but,I'd love to have some rooted starts.

There was another thread about this. Someone suggested digging up some of the root ends and putting them into a container with Roundup in it and letting them soak for a day or so to ensure that the plant takes up a good amount of it (leave the root attached to the vine, of course). This should kill the whole plant. It was also stated that folks have tried digging wisteria out only to have pieces of the severed roots grow into new plants. Hopefully someone with experience in this area will come along and give a complete explanation of how you need to go about getting rid of your vine.

Tell everyone it's your favorite plant while oozing sincerity. Read up on it. Amend the soil to the perfect PH and texture. Mix in plenty of its favorite food. Photograph the kids, dog, and significant other with it. Invite friends and family over to see it. It will be dead by summer. Leastways, this always worked for me. :))

Funny answers but the one thing I found that seems to be working is Vine-X. It is not working as fast as the box says (but then again its not listed as a vine it is effective against though the company said it was). It took about 2 weeks then like magic all the leaves shriveled up and so far not one bit of damage to the plants that are playing nicely.

I HATE Wisteria. It is the source of nightmares. I pulled up the Mother about 20 years ago. Every sprout I see i dig up and pull the root vine as much as I can. I've poisoned it with Round Up, ruined some of my wifes flowers putting 2x4 D on it. I think it is like Johnson Grass in cotton, the only way to get rid of it is move.

Mine has a truck on it like a small tree, at least a 3" caliper small tree. I hate it. It's destroying my wooden arbor. Curses to the nursery that sold it to me!!

Hey Ben good to see someone else from Jersey...I grew up in Sayreville, lived there 33 years. Hubby lived in OB till 3rd grade, then EB.

I'd would pull up what you can and keep doing what you're doing with the vine killer.
