Spring Peeking Vol 3

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Vol 2 is getting close to the 300 mark.
These are growing right next to my side entrance. Just love the look of the BH and Daffs. I reworked this bed last year and took mostly everything out and replanted. It's just a small bed between the side walk , driveway and house.

Getting ready to head outside it's almost 60 and going to be beautiful today. Ric is going to bale the yard. LOL

Holly, do those plum blossoms have a fragrance?

Shenandoah Valley, VA

I think I have a couple of spring shots I didn't post in the Plants and Puppies thread. Here's some pink daffs, pretty much bloomed out so the color is faded.

Another shot of the Charles Jolie lilac.

Hart that is a beautiful lilac

I LOVE that lilac, that's is def on my wish list.

Shenandoah Valley, VA

I don't think it's too hard to find. It's an old variety. Like I said in the other thread, I've been waiting years for it to throw up some suckers with no luck but if it ever does, I'll be glad to dig some for everybody.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

LOL, I can find it probably real easy but it's paying for it that's the problem...hee hee

I have my wish list of when I get some $, sigh

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Probably won't be too expensive here.

My DH & I went for a ride over to Biglerville & Gettysburg yesterday to visit my FIL and the Adams County Peach orchards were in bloom. Here are some shots.

Don't know whose house this is but they probably are the owners of the property.

Another view touched up. Notice the abundance of Dandilions. Here in Pa. they make wine out of them and use the stems & leaves for salad greens.

Such pretty pictures, everyone!

Today felt a lot like mid-summer (temps hit the mid-90s!!!), but there are still some new spring blossoms to share... These were taken between the 16th and 21st.

This is my earliest azalea, a beautiful deciduous variety named "Corsage". It's very fragile, and if we have a heavy rain, the flowers are beaten up and fall off. So far, they're still hanging in.

A Bloodroot volunteer that appeared near the steps between our yard and our neighbors. I need to move it before the mailman steps on it!

The dogwoods really popped out last weekend after the warm weather.

This is my earliest iris, a standard dwarf bearded, "Stitch Witch".

In addition to the dogwoods, the Japanese Painted Fern has grown by leaps and bounds as it's gotten warm.

This is a trillium which I've had for a long time down in the woodsy area. It's never divided - but it comes up every year. It does have a name, but I can't find the tag right now. It's got to be there somewhere - I'll dig for it!

Probably my latest-blooming daff, "Geranium", which is incredibly fragrant, and also stands up to rain and wind, never flopping down. It's really a winner.

Another one that just grows like crazy once it warms up - Variegated Solomon's Seal, with blossoms visible. No discernable scent.

Hey Diva, you ever have any problems with critters munching on your ferns?

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Hafta share - met with Chantell today for a bite to eat and what do we see in the Target parking lot? A flower vendor, and of course we hafta meander over to look - he had the regular-what-you-see-all-over-the-place-stuff - and then we spy some double wave petunias - and wowser...the fragrance was unreal - I nabbed 2 and my car has never smelled better, I looked like the people in the Fabreeze commercials the entire way home - hung them out on my deck & I just took some garbage out and the backyard is filled with the fragrance!!!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Were they the purple ones?

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Actually - not just the purple ones, he had white, bright pink, light pink, pinkish/purple...I also found a cellpack of "sugar daddy" - pinkish with dark purple veining, also very fragrant

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Bec, I did have Wave Petunia Plugs but somehow managed to kill all of them. Guess I'll have to buy them now. LOL
I still have more tulips and daffs coming. They will be putting on a show for several more weeks, I think.
Can't wait till these open. Dark green leaves with a white strip on the leaf edge. The buds are green with a white band and then just the palest of pink showing. The interiors should be red when they open. Esperanto

flowerjen,

No, actually I shouldn't be saying, er, typing, this but the ferns do not seem to attract any critters. I've got the Japanese ones scattered all over the back yard, including in the woodland area, which has been visited by deer on occasion, and they've escaped untouched. I also have a couple of other green varieties, and they, too, don't seem to attract critters.

Falls Church, VA(Zone 7a)

Beautiful tulips, Holly - Esperanto looks really nice, even without flowers! I've got one more batch of tulips coming, which were planted in a wine barrel that gets more shade than I realized at this time of year, so they've moving very slowly, but there are buds. New this year, so I can't wait to see them.

Bec, what a great find in the Target parking lot! I have not had much luck with the Wave Petunias - I must try again!!! "Sugar Daddy" sounds very pretty...

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Thanks for the info.

Shenandoah Valley, VA

The foliage on those esperantos is really pretty, Holly.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Wave Petunias for me also do not have much appeal. They grow too leggy and sprawl all over the place. I think they are only pretty in their "novice" state...sort of in controlled size.....if you have limited space.
I usually like to plant Petunias in containers, or in a border, and I want them to be just "fillers".....NOT all seedy-leggy hanging/crawling all over the place......

One plus--they DO reseed and come up next year!

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

I agree Gita, and I never buy the hanging planters, but, the fragrance!

Since I am so very limited on space I use a lot of planters - overfilled with Clematis, Roses, Jasmines
