A few years back, on the way out of Lowes, I noticed an item to hold garden bags open. Since it was fall, and I was knee deep in leaves (even more than I could compost), I picked one up.
It is a sheet of gray plastic or vinyl, about six feet wide and three feet high, and it has two hand holds cut into the top. You simply roll it into a 3 foot high cylinder, and drop it into an empty paper garden bag with the hand holds at the top. Once in the bag, you make the cylinder bigger by pushing it out with your hands, until the bag is fully open.
In use, it keeps the bag erect, even when it is empty. The bag stays fully open, and the plastic prevents twigs and thorns ripping the paper. Once the bag is full, just grab the hand holds and give it a shake. The plastic pops right out, ready for the next bag, leaving the full bag behind ready for the curb.
After about 5 years of heavy use, my bag holder is still in good shape. It saves endless work during garden clean up.
Does anyone else have a favorite tool?
A useful tool
Does a wagon count as a tool? We are landscaping across a 2+ acrea area and down a 1,200' driveway. My wagon has sure been a wonderful help to me.
I agree on that wagon msrobin! I have a cart that I can pull behind my 4-wheeler and it's been a HUGE help in landscaping our 5 acres and 1/4 mile long driveway. I would have hated trying to do all this with a wheelbarrow. Besides, my golden retriever always has to ride in the back basket of the 4-wheeler so I can't haul anything in it.
LOL, on the wheelbarrow! Never could manage to handle one. Yep! The wagon was the very first thing I bought for our place! Our's can be hitched to the mower, or the handle easily switched out to pull by hand. If I had known we were going to end up with such a big mower, I'd bought a bigger wagon. I also have a 2 wheel grocery cart and an old little luggage carrier (before roller bags) that I have a milk crate tied securely to. All three definitely get a lot of use from both me and DH.
