Morning Glory Seedlings-When Can I plant them?

My morning glories are 3inches high and the weather is going to be awesome in my area this weekend (49042) and I am dying to get them into the ground.

It's not really about the beautiful weather this weekend...it's about the next 4 weeks or so where you could still be getting frost. If you want to plant them out before your last frost date, you'll need to be ready to protect them if you get a cold snap. Also, have you hardened them off yet? You can't just take things that have been indoors and put them straight into the garden, you need to gradually adjust them to outdoor temperatures and outdoor light intensity first.

It's not warm enough yet. I wouldn't put them in the ground until the end of May. They like it warm.

My first seedling ever is morning glories. My daughter and I are excited. They are getting bigger! :) Our frost season is over but I haven't planted them yet.

I have a question: I put them in those little containers that are suppose to be biodegradable. Can I just put the whole thing in the ground or do I need to try and remove.

Good luck with yours. My daughter planted about 20 seeds (we didn't think they would come up) and all have sprouts..and small leaves. I have no clue what to do with them all! :)

I know.. I told my best friend. Should of known. I have never had any seeds to produce so I tell my little girl to get all that she wants (thinking we would be lucky to get a couple plants) and bang an explosion. I heard they are climbers. I don't have anything for them to climb! :) Wonder if they will climb up my waterfall?

Put the whole thing in the ground, probably, but make sure it is all the way in.... if it's a peat pot that is, as the tops of those sticking up can wick the water away from the plant roots. You may also want to tear or cut into it in a few places, making sure the roots can actually make their way out of there.

I made the mistake of planting morning glory seedlings out too early the other day -- and even though I covered them at night, the temps just got too cold last night :-( and they sort of melted.

but I will germinate more and this time keep them inside til absolutely sure -- well as sure as I can be! -- that cold nights are over.

I have some I did not risk outside yet as they are smaller (and different varieties as well) and now I intend to pot them up inside for a good long stay! I will maybe plant them out early June. But I'm in the mountains and that makes spring a much trickier time than in lower altitudes.

They do need something to climb on but pretty much anything will do, like for instance a tall sunflower. ;-)

I don't know what zone you're in Melissa, but here in 4a, the soil has officially warmed to MG standards, and as long as you've hardened them off, I think they'll be ok.
