How exciting BB!!! Congrats. Thanks Pelle for a wonderful start with the new thread.

Awesome camera Pell! I'm thinking of getting a new one myself. Your pictures are so life-like!

Anyway, here is my contribution ... I'll start with a rufous-sided towhee. Beautiful bird.

And... how about a flying yellow rumped warbler?

Last for today.... the red bellied woodpecker. Very rare to catch him on the ground! He's usually at my feeder on and off most of the day.

Nice pics Laynie!

Beautiful start Pelle! I could feel my eyes popping out of my head when that picture opened. Just amazing detail and color.
Excited for you BB! Laynie, really like that towhee.

This one is for you Mrs. Ed, your fav. I either saw two Rose-breasted Grosbeaks yesterday or I saw the same one twice. Either way, that's twice as much as I usually see in a year!

Awesome shots pellle!!

Hope you have a successful nesting season Birdie!

Laynie, neat shot of the warbler!

I had a Purple Finch hanging around saturday while I was out working in the backyard. It showed up with some House Finch but stuck around and shared a bite with this Cardinal.

One more. It was impossible to get a good shot, but I didn't dare move.

Nanny, just saw your post. Cool!!!

Since it's migrating season, I wanted to get another feeder out just for smaller birds. I wanted a caged feeder like GPs. Couldn't find one that would really work, so I tried to fashion my own. It worked most of the day. Finally just a bit ago, I came down the path and a White-winged Dove had found its way inside and was in a panic to get out. It found its way out, but I guess I'll have to do a bit of criss-cross wiring around those big openings on the top and bottom.

Finch in my make-shift feeder.

I had looked it up and the grosbeaks showed up here on April 28th last year. I am stocked up on safflower seeds and waiting. Orioles were here the 28th of April (same day!) so I am stocked up for them as well. I am so ready for the party to start!!!

Brown Thrasher from saturday.

Edited because I typed the wrong dates!

Great pics guys!

Love the Grosbeak Elphaba!

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Wonderful shots Pelle.
Laynie nice picture of the red-bellied.
Birdie good to see those eggs, means babies soon!!!
Elphaba, that's one Grosbeak, I didn't have in my yard yet. I'm hoping to see one. My SIL has seen it in her backyard, and it's only a 5min walk from here. So they are close.
Nanny, no purple finch yet, but the goldfinch has shown up today.

Got a surprise, when I downloaded my pictures today. This Hairy has made a hole in an old stump. He has a beak full of suet. Could he be bringing the female some food? Do they nest that close to the ground? Will have to investigate this tomorrow.

I was sitting on my deck, when this Sharp-shinned Hawk flew in. Could only get this shot.

pretty!!

PERTH, Australia

Wow, CBL, what a contrast.

Melbourne, FL

nanny, if you close that feeder up any more you may get a squirrel trapped inside. The openings are too large and it looks' like squirrels could easily get in, but at least with the bottom opened like that, they can get out. Really nice pics everyone!

PERTH, Australia

Laughing Turtledove. They were introduced into the South Perth Zoo in 1898 from their native Africa. They are common in suburban areas around the south west of Western Australia.

Such a neat pic cb!

Lovely pics Marg!

Hope the Redpoll is okay burn.

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Burn, nice pics. Can't wait to find out if that woodpecker did nest so close to the ground.

Margaret, I just love your birds. Does the Laughing Turtledove laugh?

GP, I closed the holes with some garden wire. A squirrel came before I closed it up, but he didn't seem to be too interested. I meant to buy songbird food. I haven't bought it before, but the ads have peeked my interest. I accidentally grabbed a bag of supreme finch food that looked just like it. Most of the finches are gone now, so I'm quite irritated with myself. I have black oil sunflower seeds and safflower seeds in another feeder. Please tell me again what you feed your buntings. I'm hoping one will stop by in the next week.

PERTH, Australia

Elphaba, at a stretch and with a vivid imagination they might sound like they're having a bit of a chuckle.

The pair of Canadian Geese just newly landed. I love to hear their voice when they arrive. :-)

LOL Margaret! There's some bird around here whose song makes me think of the nursery rhyme hickory dickory dock. I hate it when I get something like that in my head. It's about to drive me up the clock.

Lily, nice pic of those geese!

Quoting:
This Hairy has made a hole in an old stump. He has a beak full of suet. Could he be bringing the female some food? Do they nest that close to the ground?

No, it wouldn't nest so low - too risky with ground predators. My guess it is using the stump as a temporary food store, or else it has found woodworm inside the stump.

This one is for Marna, too. No bird available so please let it pass.

With the cold and rainy weather I have had to be happy with what shows up in the yard the last few days. Luckily we have had a few visitors!

Our male Blue Bird in the birch tree out front...wind just about blew him out!
