I'm new to gardening. I know I should have read the weather forecast, but didn't. Yesterday I put in my peas, multiple lettuces, cilantro and parsley. Today began what appears to be the beginning of a four day spell of hard rain, possible thunderstorms, etc. Am I likely to lose this planting by having the seeds washed away or, alternately in the case of peas, to rot?
Thanks,
Shikaku
Hard rain just after planting
I had that happen many years ago. There's really no way to tell what has happened until your seeds come up. My small seeds (lettuce, radishes, etc.) came up in disarray--it looked like I had thrown the seeds out like chicken feed. The larger seeds didn't get spread out quite so badly. Some things I had to replant and some, like the lettuce, I had to thin because of the way the rain moved the seeds around. I didn't have a 4-day event though--my heavy rain only lasted overnight but it was enough to leave everything in quite a mess.
