Could someone please tell me if 4 hours of sunlight ( 8am-12:30pm) is good enough for a garden?
I know the sun is not very strong at that time so I am concerned it wouldn't be enough for my veg garden.
Thanks
Laker
Starting sm Veg Garden, sunlight issues??
That's about 2 hours short of being barely acceptable. I don't know, lettuce might be ok, but most veggies aren't going to yield well.
Is it full shade the rest of the time, or light shade? Dappled? Is the shade a shadow cast by a building? Tree? neighbor's fence?
ok, is there a difference in shade? what constitutes light shade and full shade? Im a newbie so, this is why I ask
Full shade from 1:00 on......large trees overshadow the area I would like to make a sm garden in.
Thank you for your replies, I might need to rethink and relocate my garden.
Laker :)
Veggies where you eat the leaves, like lettuce, can handle shady spots. They may even thrive in high summer, where full sun would make them bolt.
