I bought a little aloe plant several months back and althought the approx 7-8 leaves (do aloe plant have leaves?) look green and feel good and firm to the touch, every couple of weeks one of the stems all of a sudden dies and i have to pull it out and throw away. I only water ever couple of days and try to get it as much light as i have here in NY in March and April - what should i do and what kind of fertilizer - if any at all should i use?
aloe plant - leaves keep individually dying
I think you might be over watering...
An aloe plant needs to go for weeks without watering. Most plants that have thick leaves hold water or moisture in there leaves so they don't need to be watered very often. If you can I would change the potting soil to get it out of the wet soil.
I agree it sounds like over watering--aloes don't like wet feet. I also agree that it would benefit from repotting it into some fresh soil. I think your aloe will be fine if you do these things for it.
You are overwatering it. One leaf drops off at a time. I leave my plant for weeks between waterings at the minute. Wait until the soil on the top is completely dry and stick your finger in an inch, if it's still wet then don't water it if it's dry water it. Its a succulent plant - they store water in their leaves do they don't need constantly to be watered.
I agree with the others. You are overwatering your plant. They only need watering when completly dry. Hope you can save your plant.
