I am completely new to this whole plant thing but love it nonetheless. I just got a beautiful spathiphyllum and think the color and texture of the leaves it beautiful but at the base of almost everyone of the leaves they are cracking and some look like the leaves are about to break off. why????? Help, i love the plant but fear it may die soon. Is it something with the soil? too small of a container? do i need fertilizer? thank you.
Spathiphyllum Sensation - leaves are cracking and breaking
Can you post a picture?
THANK YOU for responding, as soon as I get home I will post. Thank you.
Looks to me like somebody's been munching on it. I'm not sure what kind of pests are common on these so I'm not sure what it could be, but I'd give the plant a thorough inspection (leaves, stems, underside of leaves, top of soil, etc) and see if you find anything--if you do, try to get a picture of it so maybe someone here will recognize it.
Do you have a pet cat? Some of the damage looks suspiciously like cat claw marks.
Hadn't thought about that sort of pest! LOL Very good thought though--the bites looked a bit big and I was having trouble figuring out what insect it would have been. I believe that peace lilies are toxic to cats so if kitty is chewing on it I'd probably put it somewhere that he/she can't get to it.
