You all need to quit posting pictures of Hoyas, I feel an addiction coming on LOL.
Love the one in Post # 6428038

I brought back a white-bloomed one from the Florida Keys that was incredibly fragrant. My hostess gifted me with a nice rooted plant!
The H. obovata I have has about 50 blooms on it right now. I need to start taking cuttings before it takes over the entire lanai!

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

SunShine.. lovely pictures... funny your hoya smells like grape juice... there's a plumeria.. whose blooms smell just like grape also.. I believe it's called GrapeAid .. I've smelled it's bloom and it does smell.. just like the heavy grape of grape cool-aid ..
And a little diversion from the topic with a dieffenbachia story from my past..
Back in the early 70's I had a professional dressmakers dummy.. full botice down to a wire lower portion below the knees.. upon which it sat... I'd coated it with fiberglass / resin and filled it with potting soil...I had holes about the bottice with plants growing out.. and trailing.. out of the top grew a large dieffenbachia.. which was growing quite large.. at perhaps 10' over all height.. my wife at the time was pregnant and a week or so over due..for delivery.. one evening.. as we were lounging about in bed.. there was a tremendeous crash from below.. on going down to check.. I discovered the large planter I'd mentioned had fallen over.. and the thing had split right across the mid section.. and the dirt was spilling out.. she went into labor within 15 minutes of the crash and breaking open.. she delivered a son upon arrival at the hospital .. I've a spiritual connection to them ever since..
here's one with a MG volunteer now blooming.. inside..

Gordon, the grape-fragrant plumeria is called Cool-Aid!!
VERY funny story about the dressmaker's dummy.

Ahhh Yes.. that's indeed it... it always amaized me that it had the purpleish coloration you'd expect form a grape smelling plumeria.. How many plumeria do you have there in Naples.. I'd suspect a good many more than the 15 I have here..all awaiting their time on the roof..
I'm joyeous I have found someone to come and pick one up for adrive back south to their home there.. The husband is up in the NY area working and will return with it directly.. I'd also let a few more go also.. if there was someone willing to drive by and pick it up... and give it the winter care it will require..

I'll NEVER tell how many I have....

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

OH..I forgot.. never ask a lady.. her weight.. or her age.. .. the number of lovers she's had. her bottom line....or how many Plumeria she has.. [Likely there's never been an accurate count.. on any of these... and all answers are veiled by so many other factors.. it would never be correct anyway.. much less well received..
and I also forgot about the plumeria vandals.. hope the economy doesn't spurr more on...
here.... I'm looking for a few plumeria vandals.. to climb the stairs and carry a few away
OH.. I like posting a picture with all posts.. so here's todays inside plumbago

Hetty, you know we are all enabler when it comes to plants. Hoyas are easy to get addicted to for sure, so is amaryllis, Desert roses, Irises, Plumerias, Epiphyllum, Daylillies so on.....Geeeee so many!!!!

Gordenhawk, thanks! your story is really funny about the dressmaker's dummy...hehe ; )

Epiphyllum cutting bud is getting ready to open.

Joeswife, the coleus brightens up the GH, it does have a few vibrant blue flowers on it.
I was wondering if I am supposed to pick those off.
Your hibiscus is a very nice color and I bet you will take extra care of it since it came from your DD.

Sunshinesw, those are lovely pictures. I would find a few Hoyas in hanging baskets at the nurseries, but they are never in bloom. I would take the name home and look it up, by that time the thrill is gone. If only I had access to DG at the nurseries.

Dutchlady, seeing your beautiful plumerias made me go check on my CookTown Sunset, and yes, I have buds on it.

GordonHawk, I enjoyed your dieffenbachia story and your pictures too. I bet your Brugs are getting ready to put on a show this summer.

Rita if you leave the blooms on, you can save the seeds when they dry out a bit, if you snip them back down at the very base, two more flower spikes will soar up.. raining here alot..
Gordon I too enjoyed your memories, and I love seeing everyones blooms.. thANKS SO much!
what ARE these things? Got them in a trade from Dollie, they have new growth and have no clue what to do with them other than watch them LOL( don't mind my little spider, he is eating my ants down here)

Epiphyllum (orchid cactus).
The one on the left is sometimes referred to as 'Rick-rack'.

Nice, Dale I love those .. I can't grow iris, but I love them.. they never bloom for me, I have some from my great grandmother called dutch iris, they have yet to bloom..
Dutchlady1, should this pot go outside in the ground, or stay down here in my basement greenhouse?

The epiphyllum is best off hanging in a semi-shaded place. It is a tropical - so you need to decide what conditions you can give it; maybe check on the specific forum?

You guys did it - I had to buy another Hoya this morning....

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

hmm...the thread got "unwatched" I wondered why it was so quiet!
Rita, have you had this hibiscus long? http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=6415964
I had one last year, and loved it, but it was a bugger to keep happy after it got warmer.

MMMM you might save the seeds that flower makes.. it might seed true.. to the flower...
Called Susie Cute.. or maybe name it after your paper..
Rita.. well.. thanks... yes.. they are making a run for it already..Icouldlikely plant twice the area I have already..andI'm already going to the nurseries.... for things to flower.. till they are so shadowed by the brugs.. they expire..
Debra... I'd leave the eppies inside under the lights...for another few weeks.. 2-3... then outside to 1/2 light.. mine go under 40% shade cloth for a few weeks.. then mine go out in full sun here.. my sun is different than the FL sun

Thanks for info on the eppies.. I have decided to keep all my tropicals down here in my basement Garden and move all the sun loving stuff out.. I will need a cool spot to come to when it is 105 here in Kansas..

Rj, I too had the blue hibiscus that died last year. That one is a replacement, first time blooming for me. I have this one planted in a morning sun location.
My princess flower also died for no apparent reason last year, but I will also give it another try.

Is that the only flower without a black eye, or are they all like that one?

I found a bud on my Gmelina philippensis (parrots beak) today.

GordonHawk, I am planning to take the few Brugs that I have out of the GH next week, I hope that we do not get any more frost. I always enjoy seeing pictures of your rooftop garden.

You found a replacement? I've had my eye open, but haven't found any. One thing I did learn about it..it's desert type plant..doesn't like the water.....aside from that, it was lacking a nutrient that I couldn't figure out.

Yes, this black eyed susan vine is a full color version...all of the flowers are pure orange.
Caldwells!

That's pretty.

I know many consider the MG a weed, but I love them too. Such a vibrant color.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

LOL, yes this is the native variety and I can relate to the weed thing. I originally planted this in the very back of the garden, these photographs are from the front lawn and garden. It had to go past a large deck and fence to get there.
The tree fern is sure liking spring, seems like every time I turn around it's added an inch or two.

covet, covet your fern tree even though I have one; I sure like yours better!!!

oh my goodness RJ that was a great article..

I'm so jealous and envious. Angel Trumpet blooming this time of the year? I lost about 50% of my cuttings. So sad to loose a double peach. Anyway, I have Amaryllis Red Lion blooming. I hand pollinated them so may be there will be some seeds to give away.

Some kind of jasmine I bought at the grocery store on clearance. I've since put it in the ground. Hope it will survive this winter, otherwise I will need to dig out. The tag was not specific.

ooops. I posted the wrong picture. This is a photo of peach blossom.
