Tropical # 36

Covet, Lust, Admire....what ever anyone want's to call RJ's fern tree, I totally agree.

I am looking very forward to that "anti-freeze" proof spray as well. That will be an extremely marketable product!

This pic was taken last March in St. Augustine Florida. It's a beautiful bush but I have no idea what it is.

I like those variegated rubber tree's as well. I have one too, of course, as a houseplant in the Winter month's. It has not shown the growth rate that my all green one has but it's a keeper;-) The all green one will have a new home soon (It's too big now) with better condition's than what I can give it as a houseplant

Lovely pic's everyone.

LiliMerci, Spring has sprung at your yard, your plants are so pretty, but most of all it is good to have you back.
I have to keep my jasmine in the GH even if they came back from the roots, they never get big enough to bloom.

Rj, your blog is right up my alley, I am crazy about any variegated plant, and I can't help it. I am still jealous of your very healthy AeAe.

Rita,

Your coleus might be 'Zebra' https://p10.secure.hostingprod.com/@www.gebhartgreenhouse.com/ssl/profile/product/item.php?id=374
There are so many hybrids and many breeders - it is difficult to tell unless it has a tag.

This year Electric Lime is my new favorite>

Lets try it again. Jasmine from the grocery store... the label only said jasmine. Bought it in the clearance shopping cart. It bloomed profusely and then just turned brown. I put it in the ground and it's OK now.

But my Madagascar Jasmine is DEAD! I give up trying to grow this plant. It's just not meant to be...

Oh speaking of Alamanda....that's what that plant was Rita that you saw in the picture queue..
It's an alamanda cherries jubilee or cherry fru fru fwa something...it's very nice color..they start out a 2 tone color and then get a darker orange look.

cherries jubilee allamanda is a rosey colored. I like the way these hang down and look like a bell; could do without the orange though. LOL

Hey Joeswife, When it gets warm enough outside, put those epi's outside in a a brightly lit area, but no direct sun. Water well when dry and fertilize twice a month. The rickrack will get larger. The other epi I don't recognize it without the flower. That long part on the end will need to be cut back to the top. It won't flatten out like the lower part. They really do need very bright light to keep those blades flat and not spindley. As long as it doesn't freeze during the winter they can stay out side. They need a good cool and dry winter to flower well come spring.

Very nice pictures everyone

phughes, your allamanda is the prettiest that I have seen.

Dale TheGardener, thanks for the ID on the coleus, you also showed two other plants that I have, and needed names for.

Rj, I hope that you took a couple of cuttings of that plant , it is special.

phughes, your shrimp plant is Fruit Cocktail or so I was told when I bought mine.

Corpus Christi, TX

phughes, your allamanda must be the small yellow, not the larger brown bud? Mine looks a lot different, and is no where near to blooming yet. My Chocolate Cherry has a few very small buds, but no blooms on that one, or the Chocolate Swirl either.

I also like Allamanda, this one takes shade well>

I like the big flowering one better than mine. I have another small flowering one in the back yard with blooms too. My cherries jubilee and purple allamanda vine are not blooming though. I do love allamandas and have thought about buying the chocolate cherry if I can find a spot for it. I think Turner's had them not too long ago. Where did you buy yours?

Corpus Christi, TX

My Chocolate Cherry was a cutting from a friend. The yellow Brown Bud and Chocolate Swirl both came from Turner's. Yesterday at the Master Gardener plant auction 2 cuttings my husband made brought $30 each for the MG fund, and a smaller one $20. He tries to have some ready each year for the auction because he knows people will bid them up.

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

I do not know if its the chocolate cherry or the chocolate swirl that I saw.

edited to say: I just did some internet searching and found pictures of both of these. The swirl is cool looking. Would love to see pictures when yours bloom.

Check out the allamanda 'Indonesia Sunset' that Top Tropicals has. It's a pretty one.

I have pictures somewhere on a CD, will find later. On the web site you linked, if you didn't know that the pictures at the bottom were all the same variety by mousing over them, it would be like looking at totally different varieties. I have seen what I have as Chocolate Cherry, Cherries Jubilee and a couple of other names. I think nurseries come up with their own names :-)

I bought one called Peaches and Cream at a nursery in Rosenbery and it died very shortly after I bought it. I asked the lady who runs the nursery about it the next time we were there, and she said "it is wimpy" which is not a good recommendation. All of mine are big heavy bushes with blooms all summer long, so I will skip buying another Peaches and Cream. She didn't offer to replace it.

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

My friend Rita just sent a picture of one called Moonlight Parfait which is a pastel pink one. I think Rita just bought a Peaches and Cream one in February when we shopped Caldwell's in Houston.

That is what I like about allamandas; they have a long bloom season Here's a picture of the purple. This is last years pictures. I cut it way back in the fall and it is coming out of dormancy but hasn't started blooming yet. I probably need to hit it with some MG.

My yellow allemanda is REALLY blooming for the first time now. I guess it was waiting to get established.
