Garden Photos of '09.... #13

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Karen They need lots of room if your looking over time.
My guess is they grow about a foot a year and many reach 10 feet in both directions. I cant wait to see them bloom next winter.
DD had one at her old house What a mood lifter to see it in Feb.

Lone blue hyacinth with minnow daffs and purissima tulips

Lady that lived here before me must have got a lot of single flowers as gifts as they are spread willy nilly throughout the gardens.

Thanks for the info on the box elder, Shelley---I've never seen one.

Jen, I love those Donald Duck Tulips! great Pics. What sort of Ev. Azalea is that?

Thanks for the Info Allison!

Jo Ann and Karen... I think that you'll both be really happy with your Hazels!!! at least I hope so. Hopefully there is room somewhere where you can go out to smell them when they are in bloom!

Love the Daff Robin! You should get one of those Elders then Robin! If I remember correctly, you have the room. I guarantee you that it would get a lot of attention from people who could see it when it was in bloom!!

I think a good idea would to go out & paint some daffodils red, a la roses in alice & wonderland. That way I would have red flowers that deer & rabbits would not eat as they do the tulips.

lol...... great idea. Let's try it!!!

Figures that azalea didn't come with a plant label. Next time I'm in there I'll see if they have any left.
Usually the HD near me has horrible garden selections. I usually go to Lowe's but this year Lowe's had nothing this early and HD had a bunch of great stuff very hard to just buy that one.

nice shots Jen & Robin!

Jo Anne, I've read Hamamelis 'Diane' gets about 20' tall and wide. That's a mighty big shrub!

Great shots, Jen and Robin! Love the azalea.

Karen - - -I did the math I'm 73 so if the tree grows 1 foot per year I figure it will be half grown bu the time I'm on the other side of the grass.
GOOOOODY GOOODY/ just checked the UPS tracking and the box from Bluestone is in town out for delivery.
I hope this means a morning drop. That would save my life in a big way.

I've killed them before! Don't know how - latest one was over this past winter. I don't know if it got too much or too little moisture over the winter.

I love everyone's daffodils - they've got to be one of the most cheerful flowers going!

Here's a few of mine:

Nice pics, Laura, Bill and Sue!

Sue, I have been thinking lately that I want more primroses. I have some coming up from seed, some Primula japonica, and I want to get more seeds of other varieties. Thompson and Morgan has quite a few. I have been seeing the drumstick primulas lately at the local garden centers, and I have been lusting after them. Gotta do seeds, though, as it will save me a ton of money.
