Moved an inkberry and replaced it with Japanese Maple that I moved to replaced with a huckleberry. Musical plants.
Planted some viburnums and a small Quercus robur Concordia, a philadelphus Snow Dwarf plus 6 bonus perennials from Bluestone and a of Clematis Venosa Violacea and Clematis Rubromarginata triternata and 3 Kalimeris pinnatifida Hortensis.
That leaves me with 10 rose bushes to plant in the morning plus 4 more clematis, a DL and one viburnum and too many Lilies to count to be caught up. Then we should be getting my massive order of shrubs in the afternoon. But we are ready for them.
I did some cleaning around the stream, finally. Also spent a few hours weeding around a bunch of shrubs and re-caging them. They are still not woody enough to deter the bunnies and deer. DH got out the brush cutter and went after the edges of the property. I hauled the brush and pointed. I am good at that. Great day outside. Patti
New Project #2
candyce i mix compost and top soil some of this was placed last year and that was dirt accumulated from edging beds and it also has a lot of wood ash in it.
Thanks, Bill. I appreciate your answer. I was a bit concerned about the soil pH under the pines, as that's where my shade garden will be going, under (what's left) of the pines.
Here's our three pines, Two of them lost sections as long as five feet from the tops, and he smaller one, on the left, lost about half a tree. This photo was taken the day of the ice storm.
You're doing a great job there, Bill! You make us all proud.
We have a Borders at the Independence Mall in Kingston. All other independent bookstores around here have closed. There was one that opened a couple years ago in Plymouth at a new shopping center, but it's already out of business.
Patti, those people who bought your store in VT deserve what they got, sounds like. Not too honest or intelligent.
I got a little done in the yard today. Since I got 2 tons of flat rocks last Monday, I finally finished my pathway from my driveway to the front door. Here is a 'before' picture.

Karen - looks good - I am living vicariously through you!
I will be doing the same but wider & on a slope.
I like working with rock - my back does not.
Then on to do low rock walls around the newer areas.
One of these days i will turn into a noodle.
Katye, my back doesn't like it either. Neither do my legs. they are all sore from bending over so much. Need to take some Aleve.
Karen
nice job on the gardens Karen
nutsfordaylily, you don't need to sell plants, just change admission! Great job. Patti
Great job Karen, it looks really nice.
i agree karen - great job.
Looking good everybody - you guys never cease to amaze me!
Looks very nice, Karen.
Thanks, everyone! Didn't get anything done today, as I had to work till noon, then went to a couple of garden centers with a friend afterwards. Had fun, though, and picked up a few new things.
Karen
Oh! It's such a nice day today! I'm itching to pre-prep a new bed myself. Perhaps I'll get a stab at it tomorrow. I had forgotten that I have an evening meeting today.
Is it nice today? I haven't been out yet. These MICE are keeping me up all night! We would get a new, vicious cat but DD is very allergic.
Too bad about the mice, Carrie. But yeah, so far it's rather nice outside - that is if you don't mind mid-40s for temps. The sun is so bright though, it's very beckoning.
O WOWSER! Just found this thread. Y'all have been BUSY!! with huge work! Everything looks wonderful. We are riiiiiipppppping out the lower deck getting ready to lay a stone patio. Still humming and hawing over what stone to use. I want a flagstone look but not grey in colour.
Sandstone??
Flintstone?
I'm more partial to Rubble. Sandstone is a nice colour and local too!
I like bluestone.
Very nice!
The tile is gorgeous! I like how it picks up the paint colour.
Thanks we are glad itn nearly done. The tile took a month to order.
Lovely, JoAnn. Whew!!!
Ge1836, Nice choice. Those bold colored small tiles meld so well with the larger white ones over the cook top, which is so sensible for that space. Then I love that you have given the small ones a spot to feature just them. Love it with the counter top too. Patti
Whew! Looking great!
Looks like fun, Bill!
Look at wha go! Man it takes me all summer to do one or two projects and you are just burning through the beds wha!
I think Bill and Patti should have a contest.
Wha, that looks great, I especially like the hammock. I bought the hooks for one this spring, now I have to find that old one I know we have had for years, but never used. What are you planting there? I assume you will build another wall with all those rocks. I dare not get our own rototiller. I would be racing around digging every inch of grass up on our property. I seriously like the idea of more beds and less grass. So what is that nice row of shrubs in front of those chairs. I love all you different areas. No contest needed, I declare Wha the winner of the bed contest for this spring. My DH is great help, but I am of retirement age and not in the greatest of health, though I have the luxury of not having any rocks in our soil, just lots of roots. Though I think nutsfordaylily has done an amazing amount of work this spring.
I worked on caging, raking, and pruning in a couple of the areas that we planted all our new shrubs. One thing lead to another and I didn't get it all done. But what I did get done was good. I have one more area to do tomorrow. Plus I still have some roses to plant and some clematis. But I need to move some DL's before I plant one of the roses and then I need to move a hypericum to plant another rose in that spot and then for the last one I need to rethink where it should go. It is a climbing one and I think the spot I had ordered it for is too tight. I think I need to put up another trellis.
I also had to tackle some house work and some work in the GH to get things organized before we leave for 10 days. I potted up a mess of cuttings and transplanted some that I grew out last month that needed bigger pots already. I may take some more cutting before we go as they are working out way better than my seedlings this year. Patti
i hope i can still do what you and hank are doing when i'm your age:)
the bushes are wild burning bushes that i planted above a rock wall behind our fire pit.
for the bed i will move a radiant rose dogwood and plant the new burgundy hearts red bud and move back in the white azalea's and the rody that is a volunteer that i have moved a few times - there is also a bush red bud still in place that will stay in the bed. and i have a lot of hosta's coming from a co-op that will find homes here.
this will be done tomorrow morning and i will expand another bed in front of the house "up top" i think.
and yes they will be used on a rock wall behind another bed that needs to be moved a bit and enlarged.
