I had about a half dozen dying trees, diameter approx 20" removed from my front yard this winter and now am left with the awful look of freshly cut stumps. Any suggestions for cover up until they eventually rot? It's still very shady in the area. Zone 4
New Stumps in front yard
I've seen people just put containers on them.
If you want to get rid of them quickly, you could always have someone come and grind them for you, then you could plant something else in the ground there right away (although if the trees were diseased, you need to find out what the disease was and don't plant something else that would be susceptible to that particular disease). Otherwise I'd do what Jen suggested and set containers on them, or once warmer weather comes, you could put cushions on them and use them as a seating area.
If you are waiting for them to rot you will be waiting for YEARS.
I had mine cut close to the ground, and built raised beds around them. The beds had some height in the area where the stumps were covered and it looked neat, more interesting than flat flower beds.
