Newbie needs to learn how to grow grass

North Reading, MA

Hi folks,

My front lawn is a mess. Patches of dirt, weeds and very little grass as a result of 5 years of neglect. I don't know the first thing about how to get real green grass to grow there. My wife and I are willing to do whatever necessary to get a good looking lawn but want to do the work ourselves. Can anyone give us an idea of where to begin?

Do we airate the soil? What tools are recommended?

What products are recomended to kill the weeds?

What products to feed/seed the lawn?

Thanks a great deal!

Probably the best thing would be to till it all up. You can rent a tiller. Then rake up everything you can. Go to your local garden center and ask them what kind of seed to get for your zone, sun and shade requirements. I hope this helps. Smokey
