can someone tell me what these look like before flowering? I just got one that I ordered and doesn't look anything like the picture. Has round leaves almost like a geranium. Thought they were spikey!
Help! ordered thru garden catalog.
red prairie mallow
What's the botanical (latin) name of the plant? If it's a Sidalcea species, then the basal leaves are round, sort of like those of a pelargonium; the stem leaves are dissected, though.
How big is your plant? Many of the first Hollyhock leaves are rounded, then as it matures, you start seeing the "spikey" or cut leaves.

It's very small. just came yesterday, maybe a couple of inches tall. Guess I will wait for the snow to melt, plant it and see what happens. lol.
"Prairie mallow" is the common name for sidalcea.
