I have a feeling I over fertilized them...
Back in November, I sprouted a LOT of seedlings in this container. These little plants got rearranged, but stayed in the same pot with the same potting soil. The transplanted plants started growing and doing really well, but these little guys stayed pale and only 2" tall until the end of February - when I finally realized they probably didn't have any vitamins left in the dirt to grow. So I bought some Miracle Grow Pour and Feed, and put a capful into their next watering. Lo and behold, they got greener and a bit bigger! So the next week I put in another capful, even though the bottle said 10-14 days.
Then, I also pulled out two Batchelor Button plants I had foolishly tried to grow inside under lights in winter. The soil was kinda compacted, so I stirred it up a little. Maybe I damaged their roots?
Anyway, here's a picture of how they're wilting... there's a relatively large leaf in the top left that has some grey discoloration on it - which is how the wilting starts. Then the leaves keep wilting like the other not happy looking leaves in the picture. I've been picking the affected leaves off, so I haven't seen a whole leaf shrivel on the plant. The stems look healthy enough still, and not all the leaves are affected.
Any light to shed? Thanks!
What's wrong with my poor sweet basil?
Sorry, no help here. I winter-sowed some sweet basil and don't have any sprouts yet. but, I think it's too cold for them.
Plants4MyPots - I think you over-did the fertilizing. Too much can actually burn and kill plants' roots. Then the process of root growth has to start all over again. I suggest you take your pot to a sink, with plants still in place and run lots fresh tepid water through the soil. This will remove the fertilizer and salt build-up. - Good luck :)
I'd also be catious about over watering. At least for me, basils seem to be intensly picky. If the soil is dry down in wait to water any more.
