You know, if you read that blog, you'll see that people "in charge" are really paying attention to what is going on in that nest. I love the blog, but wish they'd do it daily to answer these questions.

Me too, it's been almost a week since an update. She's back and looks' hopping mad at the male. Keeps calling for him and food.

I have been reading the blog and not that impressed with it. Is this due to a male with bad skills or bad hunting environment??

Mom feeding only or most to the bigger chick is simply a matter of survival. If it gets down to her own survival she will quite feeding the bigger chick too I imagine.

So many questions that I would love to have them address!!

Melbourne, FL

He's a much younger bird, so he's not that experienced, but I gather most depends on the weather and winds, etc. on whether fishing is good. I find their blogs much more detailed that some, I just wish they would update more often. I would like to know whether the male is trying to fish today, or just sitting in a tree somewhere listening to the female. I have heard him answer her back a few times.

I hope they got some food early today...it's going into nightime there soon, and they may not get any fish. The chicks look to be pretty strong, so maybe they ate earlier today.

Tried again - still can't get it with firefox, but then tried IE, and it works in that OK.

Cute pic of the babies this morning. Anybody see them get any breakfast today?

They look so bad in this shot, I'm afraid they may be starving. The mother took off, it's almost like they have been abandoned.

GP, I agree with you. The smaller one was begging from the older chick yesterday and today they are once again being left unattended for long periods. I haven't seen them fed when I've been viewing, which is frequently, on and off for several hours. It's awful.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Can't the mother fish for them? I see she's back at the nest now.

Marlton, NJ

She could but that would leave the chicks unprotected.

I remember watching a nature special on some type of raptor outside of the America's. The Father was just a VERY lazy hunter for his family and the Mother finally did have to go out and hunt for them herself. It was a close call the chicks were almost taken by a predator before she got back. Amazingly they survived (no thanks to the Dad).
The parents are not always good providers.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I feel so bad for her. She must be SO stressed out. I think she has grounds for divorce.

Marlton, NJ

Yes it is a shame. As well as food, she needs to hunt for a new mate.

Melbourne, FL

If they did not get any food today, the youngest probably will not make it. He is so weak.

PERTH, Australia

Both chicks are alive and moving. They just had the camera on them at close range and the crop of the smallest one is bulging. I can't see the crop of the bigger chick as it's behind the smaller one. One of the adults (presumably Mum) is on the edge of the nest, preening herself.

Melbourne, FL

Thanks, Margaret.....they looked very weak to me, but I could'nt get a real good look at them. I was afraid one was dead.

PERTH, Australia

GP, when I first started watching a couple of hours ago, I thought the little one was dead. Just lying there with its head flopped onto the side. The larger one was upright and active in the one spot. Then the little one sat upright and looked quite perky. I had to increase to full screen to really see what was going on as they had the camera zoomed right out, which I also took to be an ominous sign. Then, a few minutes later when I checked, the camera had zoomed right in close on the two chicks and I was so pleased to see its crop bulging. It still has a very uncertain feel about it, though.

Melbourne, FL

I am so relieved.....I really thought I would find the youngest dead this morning. Thank goodness the male finally came through with some food. They both look fine now.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

There are 2 adults there right now!! Food was just brought in.....

Both are getting fed now, so all is OK here for the time being. I think it was a close call, especially for the youngest chick.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Whew...both are getting fed right now. This is a rollercoaster ride...

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

The weather is a lot better at the moment - the days when not much food was coming in were very windy, and fairly wet too. I'd suspect that's a major factor with a younger male, not experienced in fishing in rough weather.

PERTH, Australia

That's a relief, Resin. Thanks for the information.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Trouble is, rough weather is frequent in Scotland! There's more forecast for midweek.

It appears as if Mum Osprey is feeding the two chicks now. The video footage is distant and the quality is really poor at them moment. It keeps flickering and cutting out.

Melbourne, FL

Yes, I was watching too, but done feeding when I got there. I was wondering if they had eaten, but the crop on the older chick looks full, not so much on the youngest. I can't believe they have not updated this site since the 22nd!

Melbourne, FL

They finally have an update about the Ospreys.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Both chicks looking fine now

Liked the bit about Great Tits stealing the microphone covering to use for nest lining!

I know sometimes I heard that odd noise, but figured it was the wind!

Ug oh, all I'm getting when clicking on the link is a page advertisement for wildlife tv.

PERTH, Australia

Pelle, look to the bottom of the page and along the top line in the middle is a photo of an Osprey and it says "Cam 1". Click on that and it will take you to the camera. Click to start when the black screen comes up. They changed it a couple of days ago. Good, too becasue you can keep the site up but stop the camera when you're not viewing.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Working now pelle.

As far as the update...Things seem to be okay now...But what nest were they watching last week for pete sake's!! I will keep the rose colored glasses nearby from now one.....

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

All going well, and there's another update.

Tech problems seem to be sorted too, it works in firefox again.

Much better picture now....mama getting them tucked in for a nap. Saw one do a nice poop!

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Both chicks still doing OK; seems they had an eel for dinner today (new update)

I thought I had been observing both adults snuggled over the chicks this morning, but it looks as if it was only the mother bird with her left wing slightly outstretched. With some moisture on the camera lens, it made it look like both were there. .

Both parents are at the nest now, and the chicks look great. Nice to see them all together.

Feeding time right now!
