morning glory species 2009

nice plants you have there Debra... the i albivenia should have mostly white flowers and should grow a bottle shaped caudex.... when the plant grows some you should be able to raise the caudex so you can see it :-)

here's Ipomoea species white with purple centre... the flowers open later in the morning than the others... so it's not fully open.... i hope the pollen gets released before i have to leave for work....

Really! Cool! Oh now I am so glad I fell into the odd species addiction.. I have quite a few of them planted down in the sand/beach area right above the water line where my son lives.. is that too close to water? about 5 feet from watery sand..
I also planted the pes capre, the merrima from emma, and a whole bunch of different things, oh yes the capensis too..
if you get pollen are you going to store it?
Here is his beach on the east side of the dock..I planted some stricto by the rail, and moon flowers in the little brick holes to trail down, and some mexican petunia .. put some beach glories from emma in the sand closer to the water.. I better get over there and look see that was on may 13th.. the beach faces north.. (the water is up high because of all the rain we have had here..)

oh Debra that's going to look gorgeous... i can't wait to see the future pics of the beach.

Debra and Colin - Love the I. albivenia photos! What a neat plant!!!!

Joseph says they are fragrant, too! Now that's a combo that can't be beat!!!

Keep up the great work growing these beauties! (And keep posting those amazing photos!)

thanks Becky...

here's Ipomoea 'pubescens' (African form) showing the bud just starting to open and the sepals.... if it opens before i go to work i'll put another pic up :-)

it looks as though the flower will be about the size of a large i purpurea...

Thumbnail by ceej1963

i've just potted up this Ipomoea carnea, seeds from Belize, and noticed that it's fasciated...

Thumbnail by ceej1963

well it's 8:30 here and it's nearly open...

it's gorgeous... but probably a little smaller than an i purpurea not as i previously thought...

whoops!... the pic :-)

Thumbnail by ceej1963

I like the deep vivid blue of the last flower, Colin. Is it a caudiciform?

Hi Joseph...
yes the I 'pubescens' is a caudiciform type... heres the caudex forming mostly under the soil... i'll be able to raise it once it has grown... i don't know how long that will take tho'!

Thumbnail by ceej1963

and here's an I 'pubescens' leaf...

Thumbnail by ceej1963

here's another picture of the I 'pubescens' fron Africa...

Thumbnail by ceej1963

another shot of the same flower last night... showing the sepals... they are quite showy themselves, being spearshaped and fluffy with fine dense hairs....

Thumbnail by ceej1963

here's a profile of I 'pubescens' leaf, showing the extra lobes that form on the more mature leaves...

Thumbnail by ceej1963

this one shows the lengh of the flower... about 1.5 inches...

Thumbnail by ceej1963

and this picture showing the width of one of the more mature leaves.... just over three inches... ignore my dirty thumbnail :-)

Thumbnail by ceej1963

and this last one showing the variability of the upper leaf lobes between plants...

the top one making a neat 5 pointed star shape with other lobes and the bottom one has the top lobes runing level with the lobes below them.

these leaves are from different sources, the top one belongs to the plant with the flower... the other is from an as yet unflowered plant...

i just thought this looked lovely... it's growing in a neighbours garden...

known locally as pink bindweed... it's not as common as the white form but grows in quite a few places around here....

Thumbnail by ceej1963

another shot... it seems to have split petals....
