heres whats left of I StigosaNOT... showing the curvature of the sepals as stayed the same
morning glory species 2009
Colin - I'm tending to think that the species is I.hederacea because of some of the sepal tips and the manner of swelling at the base of the sepals , but only crossing with other I.hederacea or I.nil will prove for certain...
Thanks for showing the seedpod sepal group...it was definitely helpful...
TTY,...
Ron
Wow, that is one cool looking plant! Hope it opens for you soon.
Colin - Very Kewl that the unusual caudiciform species is producing buds and will soon be Flowering (!)...
Here's hoping for lots of healthy pollen for seed production (!)

Colin - You mentioned :
"i wonder if the little dew drops under the flower buds are extra floral nectaries!..."
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6534232
I'd say definitely yes...
"who's the extra nectar for and why?? "
"the dew drops tatse (sic) sweet :-) "
The nectar is for any creature interested to consume it (hopefully like it enough) and be willing to pollinate it and / or to protect the plant (!)...although I'm not sure if the desert creatures that would usually be lapping the nectar of this plant includes humans...this plant is not on the 'definitely known to be edible to humans' list and the nectar could conceivably contain some hypnotic / mind altering substances...so, now your testimony has been tainted by substances unknown... (!)...you could be in some type of 'trance' state and not even know it (!)...
Didn't your childhood caretakers ever warn you about putting such things in your mouth (?!)...unusual nectar pica (?!)...Hmm...I think there are support groups for this kind of 'thing'...(!)
The photo here
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6534432
is great...showing the sheen that the natural oils and waxes impart to the freshly burgeoning parts...
The purple buds on the plant here
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6534232
are so kewl looking...(!)
The sepals on the bud at about the 8 o'clock position look curiously like the sepals on Ipomoea hederacea as seen here
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/91084/
Some closeup photos of the sepals may be worthwhile at some point...and noting any possible progressive curvature changes...

AWESOME photos, Colin! Seriously clear and sharp!
oh my colin that is awsome.. I LOVE that purple red coloring..
Hey Ron... my Childhood Caretakers spent half their time telling me not to do something or other... and the other half telling me not to do it again... especially my Nan (!) :-) ....and anyway according to your criteria the nectar is mine.... so there!....lol :-)))
thanks Becky and Debra...
Debra... do i remember that you where after beach glories or was that someone else?.... anyway i found this link for some really inexpensive ipomoea violacea seeds
http://sampleseeds.com/?page_id=73

Emma

my plantensis is really going to town..
Debra -
You may or may not find this particular species growing in Padre, but who knows!
You will more than likely find Pes caprae growing there.
I will d-Mail you the link that Colin is referencing.

Emma
Thanks, I ordered those seeds from that site..
oh colin, I am so happy for you.. absolutely gorgeous!
Very, very awesome, Colin! I love your ipomoea species!!! And the Ipomoea sp. aff. lapidosa from East Africa is most interesting too! You are accumulating such a nice collection! Thanks for sharing the photos with all of us!
thanks Debra, Becky and Joseph.... i'm hoping to get a few seeds for sharing... the i sp aff lapidosa should have a huge white bloom... and i don't know if it was fragrant Joseph i forgot to give it a sniff :-(
After experiencing fragrance in albivenia and lindheimeri flowers, I always check for that attribute in new MGs I grow.
We had 38 degrees F here last night, near freezing with windchill. Covered many young MG plants and brought in the precious ones and I think I got away without any mortality. Whew!
Joseph
Dont' have a clue how I sent it twice

Joseph, glad you didn't lose any. It got down to 48 here and I'm carrying mine
in and out.
Colin, Love your species. I'm very partial to the white with pink to purple throats
A gorgeous flower. Congrats
Colin - Nice photos...
Did you check to see if the bloom(s) are producing pollen (?)...likely be a good idea to hand pollinate just to be sure...
TTY,...
Ron
It didn't take you long to get dialed in on that new camera. The macro is wonderful.
I don't think there is anyone in the USA selling the caudiciforms like you have been buying. You make it look like you run down to the corner store and get them. I wish we could find them here. It is great to see some with actual blooms on them. Keep up the good work with that camera. Frank
hope your plants are ok Joseph...
the throat was more pink than purple Patootie... i hope i get a seed for you at least :-)
Ron... i pollinated it... it had loads of really waxy pollen... it looked almost edible (no i didn't...lol)
thanks Frank... i love my camera :-) i get them from Germany... hopefully i'll get loads of seeds, so we can all have some.... eventually!
Colin, Thank you, something to really look forward too. Hopefully one
day, it will make plenty of seeds.
love those caudex forms, Colin..
here is albivenia slowly waking up.. I have it facing west, behind the four o clocks until I can transplant it.. the bottom of the cup has nice sized slits for drainage, I put sand on top to keep it cool.. it acts like it wants to form a bottom under that sand..u know, I have no clue what this is even going to look like bloomed.. that just dawned on me..
