I would like to have a trellis with a vine , other than ivy, that will be evergreen in Zone 7. Reading the blurbs at nursery sites, I see a Carolina Jessamine and a Star jasmine that are supposed to stay green all winter.
What do you reccomend?
Thanks
evergreen vine for trellis
Hi Monnie! I also live in zone 7 and Confederate Jasmine worked a lot better for me than the Carolina Jessamine. It took a little longer than I thought to get established, maybe because I didn't fertilize it enough, but when it took off, it covered the trellis beautifully. Mine usually bloomed late spring/early summer. Great scented little blooms!
I'm not zone 7 but I still highly recommend star jasmine. I have one and I just love it. A word of caution though--put it in a place where it will be protected from cold blasts of wind. I started with two. I put one on the west side of my house and one in a sheltered corner that faces northeast. The one on the west side got blasted all winter with our generally north and west winds and it died that first year. The one in the northeast corner is now in its fifth year and is just beautiful (it is on a trellis).
klp, what do you mean by 'it took a little longer to gt established'?
