Here is a not very good shot of the Green Rose fully open. Sunny days make taking a good shot a bit harder, and I didn't have time to get out the shade.
Tropical Garden #35
Cass,
Up in COLD Rochester, hence the long delay in answering.
I have been wiping it down with alcohol and seem to be winning. My spots are like bleach marks, not black. It's back flowering again so something must be right or it's doing it's swan-song.
Will be home next Monday.
RachelLF, that is not my Fern Tree, that beautiful plant belongs to phughes. The picture was of her front flower garden. I have tried growing them several times before, without success.
Planter56, phughes tree fern is planted under the eaves of her house. From seeing how tall RJ's plant is, would you advise her to move it , or let it say where it is?
Alocasia Brian Williams
Your gardens are so pretty, Rita. Love the statue and the rock you used to edge your beds.
Which cultivar is it?
Hi Rita. Well I think I would let it stay where it is as long as it happy there. They will grow towards the light so it might lean out farther. If it does get too big for the area then by all means move it to another location similar in environment.
I do hope that everyone knows that roses are subtropical and will continue to grow and bloom in the right temps. They usually have a blooming cycle of every seven weeks depending on the variety. :)
I think being up in the cold areas of the country we are more apt to get roses that are colorful rather than green :)
thank you planter56. Rita thought the same thing that I should leave it and it would start leaning out toward the light. I figure it would be awhile (like years) before it outgrows the area; I just worried that I wouldn't be able to move it once it got too big. It is one of my favorite plants. I coveted RJ's and threatened to steal his so I bought me one when I visited Houston about two or three years ago. Now I see them popping up in my area nurseries.
Where is RJ?????? Oooohhh RJ come out and play!!!!!!
Sunshinesw: what is this? It looks very cool..

LOL!!! Your tomato is bigger than my whole plant.
Joeswife, it's Japanese eggplants.
sunshine, pls tell us how you care for the rhipsalis. I have one that is alive but not too happy.
jeri, impressive pics, that must have been so much fun.
It sure was!!!! I wish I could take you all!!!
Vossner, I just hang rhipsalis under a mango tree & ignore it for awhile. I water when I remember, it thrives in under neglect. Fertilize during growing season with weak solution (1/4 strength) every time I water.
after looking at yours, I think mine might be getting too much sun. I'll change location. thanks.
Any more pictures especially the hibiscus, jeri????? I was just looking at the Dupont website yesterday cause I kept seeing their name as hibiscus hybridizers. Thanks to Rita I am starting to get an interest in tropical hibiscus. Bought my first two last Friday while we were out nursery shopping.
Those are so pretty.
You would enjoy going to Dupont's their parent plants have flowers the size of Dinner plates!!
Oh Great, now lookie what you did.. I just ordered two hibs from their website.. I hope these guys like the outdoors!
They revel in it!!! The fresh air and sunshine is right next to water and fertilizer.
I know what vacation in the spring means--Rj is working in the garden. Enjoy! Wish I was too instead of stuck in a classroom, grading papers.
