Tropical Garden #35

Red Oak, TX

Metrosideros, I am enjoying all of your plant pictures. They are all new and interesting to me, especially that vine that you posted earlier.

More of phughes garden, there was a place for everything and everything was in its place. I had to point out a little dirt on one of her tools, hanging on a potting bench that her DH made, just in fun.

Louisiana Dale, the plant is a ornamental variegated pepper. I am sorry that it took so long to reply. I have seeds if you would like to have a few.

phughes loves coleus, and she knows the names of each and everyone of them. She shared quite a few of her favorites with me.

Hey Rita those pictures are wonderful of Phughes' garden. You did a great job! She sure has a way with her plants. I loved the Crown of thorns and the clerodendron. It's kind of funny to see potten annuals in someones garden when up here we're still waiting for warmer weather :)

Very nice picture of your fern RJ. I wish I could put mine in the ground and have it grow so nicely.

Hey TexasBL, congrats on the seedling. My plumi hasn't even put out new leaves yet :)

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!

Texasbigleaves, keep us posted on that plumeria seedling; amazingly large inflo - is this its first bloom cycle?
Thanks everyone for gorgeous pictures!

Dallas, TX

Dutchlady1, Yes it is the first. Can not wait to see the color of the flowers. Jerry

That is a very big inflo for a first cycle. Please post pictures of the blooms when they appear. Judging from the bloom stalk color you are likely to have a red or dark pink. How old is the seedling?
There also is a plumeria forum. Folks there will be interested to see what you have.

Here is the plumeria frorum.

ooh..busy Easter weekend!
The fern is not growing "in" the pond, but on the side of the pond. Ironically as much water as it needs for the top portion, the bottom half can't be over watered. At least when it was smaller, so the liner of the pond offered a dry place in case the roots needed one.

Yes Rachel, I like all sorts of ferns, I have about 5 other types.

Here is a pure colored black eyed susan.

Good morning everyone and thanks for the nice comments on my flowers; we sure had fun and yes to both questions Jerry. We hit 8 nurseries, one Lowe's, and my flower beds. The van was full and most of it was Rita's. I just wonder if her DH will bring her back. I thought she might either have to leave Colin or DH in Rockport in order to fit all the plants in her Tahoe. LOL We had a great time.

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

Love the pictures!!!! Looks & sounds like Yall had a wonderful time!!!! We need to do that every once in awhile!!!!! Need pictures now of all the new plants!!!!

joeswife, great shot. I find white is hard to photograph, that is a prize winning morning glory.

Planter56, It won't be much longer for you to wait on getting all the nice sunny spring days. We are getting lots of strong wind today.

TxLadybugg, I like your name. That is really a good picture, please show us more when you get the chance.

robcorreia, I saw your Brug. Sanguinea bloom on #33. You should get a prize for getting her to bloom, so far you are the only one that I know that has done so. They are so finicky.

Thank you ladies. Demure little me, enjoying a perfect gardening day.

Happy Birthday Vossner!

Placenciarita, lovely plant's there as well. You have a "tree fern" too.

RJ. I will be very happy to send you some of our native fern's.

Beautiful growing/lovely pic's everyone.

Does everyone consider this to be a tropical rose?

Rosa chinensis 'Viridiflora', the Green Rose.

Don't know why the picture won't load. Here it is again. Green Rose.

Rita that picture of the tree fern next to the croton was great. The contrast really shows well.

As far as spring goes it's suppose to be in teh 50's this week with a high around 60 by the end of the week. I have to start potting up my Alocasia's and colocasia's now and get them going. Other than that, I just sit and knit and wait :)

Paris, KY(Zone 6a)

Gorgeous eye candy you all!! :)

I will be quite honest with you Dave from my view. No, I would not consider the green rose a tropical looking plant in my eye's. To each his or her own though. Everyone has a different opinion on what look's/is tropical. What do you think? I am all ear's/eye's when it come's to you!

Rachel

Keaau, HI

Thanks Rachel, this is one of the few roses that does well in Hawai'i. Bugs & disease seem to stay away from it. It blooms here almost year round!

My only conclusion to my statement would be: I have never remotely thought that some type's of "rose's" would thrive in Hawaii. I love learning.

Thank YOU again

Corpus Christi, TX

The Green Rose is a rose, even though it doesn't look like one. It is entered in American Rose Society sanctioned shows by that name, is elgible for the Dowager Queen Award and often times wins it over roses that look like roses :-)

San Antonio Rose Society has their spring rose show this Sat. the 18th at the Garden Center, next to the Botanical Gardens. Chances are someone will have a Green Rose entered in the show.

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

I never knew there was such a thing as a green rose. I think it is cool looking. Would love to see a picture when they open some more.

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

Happy Belated Birthday vossner. Hope you had one of the best gardening days for your birthday!!!!

I didn't know you couldn't grow roses in Hawaii. As to the green rose, I always considered it a novelty item. And it's the kinda plant you love or you hate. No in-between on this one.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

thank you. The sunday rain perked my flowers and on my BD they were in all their splendor. A neighbor who never says anything actually stopped and paid us the sweetest compliment. I was elated, especially since it came from such a quiet person.
