Something to put my containers on...away from the dog

Greenville, NC

I am growing tomatoes and herbs in containers this year and need some kind of apparatus to put them on. I was thinking of a simple bench or maybe a set of stairs so they will be on different levels. I would love to just put them on the ground around the garden, but that is just target practice for my dog. I will need to build whatever it is, so the easier the better. Any ideas?

A few bales of hay? Kind-of natural looking and you wouldn't have to build anything. Maybe plant a couple annual flowers around the base or you could even grow a vining type plant in the hay (or straw)

how about using a similar container, flipping it upside down - as in a pedestal - and then set the planted container on top.
Love the 'target practice" analogy. LOL,

old wooden chairs, bird baths, you can buy plant stands/ shelves, hay bales aren't a bad idea, any piece of old furniture that can be used as a decorative piece...old furniture and the hay bales will give it a rustic look :)

An older couple I knew had an old step ladder(6 or 8 foot I think). They would use 1x8 planks slid from the step side to the back side and used nuts and bolts to anchor the planks to the steps. They grew a number of veggies and other plants in containers then would have flowering vines at the four corners. Sunlovers in the front of the ladder and shaded on the opposite side. Really a nice set up. I was told he gave $1.50 for the ladder at a garage sale as it was no longer suitable for use as a ladder. The heavier pots were always placed on the lower steps for stability. In the winter he simply took off the planks folded the ladder and stowed it in the corner of a shed where it waited till next spring.
