Thanks all.
Anita - my mom was 25 in that photo.
Coffee Break #8 - It's April - no fooling!
Welcome back, Victor. Missed you. I'm happy you had a small vacation.
Thank you, Candyce! Hope you feel better.
Oh, I will, Victor. I will.
Thanks for the good wishes.
Dnut! The state mushrooms in MN,WI,MI are most likely Morrels yummy
Hope you are feeling better, Candyce!!! Spring is no time to be sick!!!
Victor - did you have a vacation?? Somehow I missed that! Hope it was fun!
Hi Louise. Just a few days in Boston. We did have fun - thanks.
My grandkid, HayHay, is not going to Boston----Sharks in the aquarium are keeping her out of town. Our DS is taking the kids to the Bronx Zoo this weekend----I'm sure she'll complain to me about all the animals she didn't want to see!
She sounds about 13 -16 .Dont kids know their maturing years are harder on their parents ,than on them?
Good Earth Day everyone!
Let me hijack this thread long enough to proclaim HOORAY!!! Gregg got a job!
Yeah, congrats Gregg!
It's been a l-o-n-g unemployment, for sure! Thanks for the well-wishes.
Congrats Candyce!!! That is great news!
Yes - great news, Candyce. Tell him congrats!
WOOHOO!!! Doin the 'happy dance'
Yippie!!!! So happy for your family Candyce, hopefully things will get a bit easier!!!!!
Echoing the happy dance! Great news! Jo Ann---my GD is only 4---I can't wait until she's 13---it will be payback time!
THAT'S WONDERFUL, CANDYCE!!!!!!!!!!! Hank and I are so happy for him and for all of your family. Thanks for letting us know that!!! Congrats to him from us, please!!!
Yeah Candyce!! Great news.
Thanks everyone for all the congrats. And, I have let him know what you all have said. He just kind of looked at me funny, but I think he's very happy to know that you were all thinking of him (and us). This is the best bunch of friends ever!
Now back to your regularly scheduled ramblings ...
The red-bellied woodpecker was on the feeder this morn, but when I opened the window to get a photo---he flew! Usually nothing bothers him---he has a bill like a sword. Even the blue jays respect him. Very windy today---guess I'll go grocery shopping & pick up sticks later today.
I saw a huge pileated yesterday on my hike.
Lucky you, Victor. I hear them often, but have yet to see one. I've been hearing the loons on the lake, though, for the past few mornings. And I don't mean the summer residents!
LOL Candyce
In case you missed this on the Garden History Forum this is interesting history from the NE.
From 1850 to 1878 Daniel D.T. Moore, published a newspaper called "Moore's Rural Newyorker". This paper covered agriculteral news and the entire 1861 to 1865 collection can be viewed and downloaded here.

Pileateds are usually shy---I've seen a few on the Appy Trail---also on Mascoma Lake in NH. The elusive one is the red-headed woodpecker---have seen only one in all my days.
i've got them screaming all around here - can't miss them - really like them - we used to have a couple live in an old oak in the back yard until it fell
We've had one close by for the past couple weeks, I'm hoping it/they stay.
good morning Debilu
I went to the Lamberton and the new tropicals building is nice.
My feeling about the conservatory is ,its not being tended very well. There were no big displays of tulips outside.
The spring bulb exhibit was fantastic when it was newly blooming but we got there a week too late, most blooms were blasted if not downright shrivled.
That's too bad - I was thinking of going there but with jury duty have been busy. I'll be done on Monday - and then back to my normal.
What is that? Best, better, worst??? Are they the same variety...I'd be calling them on that one.
I was leery of ordering from them as they do say they ship mostly dormant and bareroot.
Hi just popping from down here in Northeaster Florida. Been busy .
I have ordered for Big dipper my plants have all survived but it did take them a year to acclimatize now they are going great guns. But I grow in large pots and it is a lot hotter here than there and that might have been part of the problems.
Hi Wren---nice geraniums! One year I was too naive---put them in the 1st week of May---we had snow on the 9th! Didn't hurt them, though!
From today's Garden History items:
"1893: The U.S. Supreme Court declared the tomato a vegetable"
I so did not know this. I wonder how the tomatos feel about it?
They blushed red!!!!!
Must have been a slow year in 1893.
I noticed some of my tulips were munched even though I had applied deer scram(usually works) I was showing my 2 year old and I hear rustling in the bushes...out runs Peter cottontail...
Bad bad bunny!
I too have a few tips of tulips gone too, but they left the hyacinth, daffs and crocus's alone.
